Free Cooler Master MWE 750 White 230 - v2 or Corsair CX550?

Filingo
Go to solution Solved by SavageNeo,

white v2 is decent, if it is free i would go for that

Hello,

I have a simple build with 2200g. Should I go for a relatively known and decent Corsair PSU - the CX550, or use a Cooler Master 750 White 230 that my friend can give me if I need?

These are links to the products:

Cooler Master MWE 750

Corsair CX550

Thanks!

The CX550 is 1000x better than the Cooler Master.

The CX550 is the better power supply and if it was a choice of which to buy the Corsair would be the obvious choice, but since that requires money to buy and the cooler master is free then there's really no reason not to take the free cooler master.

I know that the CX is very good but my system is so cheap that I don't think it worth it right now, and the EVGA does have the right protections in case something happens. and if he dies, then I'll go with the CX especially when PSU prices sky rocketed this year. I was about to get the RM650 for another build but it went much higher than last year

Both are tier B, but the MWE white V2 is on low priority (has ripple problems at low load)

CX is also one of the best at tier B, and pretty quiet under load.

MWE V2 is not bad by any means, cx/cxm are much ebtter, but if the MWE v2 is free for you, go for thath.

Note that it's also the 230V only version.  Not the full range version.

it has ripple (coil whine aswell) problems on low load meaning that it will make more noise when on low load than on high load.

That's not the point.  As long as your mains voltage never drops, you're fine.  What defines a "230V Only" PSU is that they make the primary side half the size of a full range model to save money because @ 230V, you're using half the current of 115V.  The one part in particular that is down sized is the bridge rectifier, which is one of the hottest running parts inside a PSU.  NOT something I would want to make more anemic in an effort to save $1.50.  If your mains voltage does drop < 180V for more than one cycle, the PSU can potentially fail.

Actually, it will have a pulsating buzz noise at low loads because the LLC driver switches to a burst mode at low loads.

That's one insane drop though. I don't see that happening unless something went seriously wrong.

Even if it did, why would the PSU fail? because of increased current for like, 1-3 cycles? I'd say the PC probably just reboots due to the drop in output voltage.

You have good mains then.

You'd be surprised how often mains drop below 180V in regions like India or South East Asia.

Then if the PSU prices get closer to last year's I may still get the CX again,  lets see
