Do you guys remember the good old days of Mini HiFi Systems ?

23 years back when I was a teen there was this intense demand for Mini HiFi Systems. It was not only me but all my friends purchased at least one.

What do I mean by a Mini HiFi system ?

A typical mini hifi system included a Audio CD Player, Am/FM Radio & 2 Audio Cassette Players.

In terms of sound quality Sony was dominating the market. I am attaching a pic of a Mini HiFi System.

 

Now in 2020 if I visit a local electronics shop looking for a Mini HiFi System I will have to return empty handed coz they don't sell them anymore.

What is the scenario in your country ? Do they still sell Mini HiFi Systems ?

Yeah, they still exist. Though at the cheaper end the market I'm not sure why. If you don't have room for a separates system a Yamaha, Denon & Cambridge Audio mini HiFi still makes a good substitute.

But they're still expensive af nowadays. Even a relatively basic unit will set you back almost 300 CAD.

 

Remember when we had monstrosities like these? Those VU meters, what an aesthetic that was.

I had a Sony for a while. The main unit went out. That was the day I learned... You can in fact run those in cars and trucks. And you can in fact fit the box speakers behind the bench seat of a 1981 Toyota single cab pickup.

In my younger days I prefered a stack of salvaged older hifi gear, blew those things out of the water.

 

I still have the older variant of the Yamaha MCR-B043, been meaning to sell it.

 

It's the classier more compact step up.

 

Was a nice gift from the wife, just never really had anywhere to put it and rarely have a chance to play music out loud at home. I tend to be a car and headphones listener these days and the bluetooth speaker is more convenient.

 

It has an ipod dock, ahh memories, remember those... ?

In France, you have mini HiFi JVC with Audio CD Player, MP3 support, FM Radio and Bluetooth for 99€.
