New design - text scaling

DJ46
Go to solution Solved by colonel_mortis,

I have changed the font back to Helvetica, which I think should fix this.

I like the new look, it seems more up to date without being revolutionary (I tend to reject almost all big changes to websites these days).

But I think there might be something going on with the text scaling. I will admit, my eyesight isn't great, but on a 1080p monitor at 100% scaling most of the text looks blurry. (mainly noticable on the recent topics bit and text in posts)

What makes me think it's not just my eyes is that at 110% and 90% it looks nice and crisp.

I noticed that the VULTR ad specifically is the opposite - crisp at 100% and blurry at 110% and 90%. (edit: the Displate ad is the same)

I hope this feedback is in some way useful, I will browse the forum at 110% for now because the default text in posts is too small at 90% and the blurry look of 100% hurts my eyes.

Could you try looking at the ad in the top right and text in posts while changing the scaling between 80-120% to see is anything goes blurry?

I feel like I'm going crazy.

I'm using an adblocker, so no, I can't.

The text doesn't look 100% right on this shitty 6 bit TN 1366x768 panel either on this old laptop

Could do with a higher contrast and maybe a slightly higher font size

I took a picture with my phone, but it's not really obvious and it's dark here so it's kinda grainy... could upload it if there's really interest.

The "e" is noticeable ... looks like crap

edit: yeah, it's the "Inter" font ... used developer tools (Inspect element, select paragraph, scroll down to edit the font list) to remove it from the list and the text is way more readable, it falls back to helvetica new or some other font in that list.

edit2: the ugliness goes away when zooming to 130% ... but that makes font too big. 120% is acceptable but there is some blurriness/shadows.. 110% and 100% is definitely noticeable.

Took some screenshots, the top half of the letter "t" is very noticeable:textYT100.png.6efd93914bfc7ff0d19cc41251069b46.png

(scaled it up by 200%)

Well spotted, deleting Inter from the font family definitely helps. Took some screenshots at 100% scaling with the Windows Magnifier at 500%

- this one is with Inter deleted:

- this one is after refreshing (with Ctrl+F5):

edit: another one, with the default fonts but at 110%:

and this one also with default fonts, at 90%:

Are you using Chrome on Windows by any chance? Font rendering varies by browser and OS, and Chrome seems to be the worst for legibility in my experience.
