50C idle with i7 6700k

svrhub

i just installed my i76700k from my i5-6400, i don't know much about cooling, i know my cooler is not the best its a coolermaster  2 heat pipe one crappy fan

The i5-6400 was idling in 30s

now the i7-6700k is solid 45C+ bounce to 60s on idle, im scared to game on it, im going to redo my cooler and see if that could be the culprit any thoughts?

is the jump from 65W to 90sW that much more heat?

Just wondering... did you apply new thermal paste?

I would say a better cooler for sure. He only has two pipes trying to cover that little blast furnace..

Yes 65w to 95w is a good bump.. you have every right to be scurred. You could try to repaste it, but you are lacking heatpipes.

You want a decent 6 pipe cooler.

Do it and / or run a synthetic stress test like OCCT to see what load temps are. If they're fine, there's no need to worry. Higher idle temps may be due to low fan speeds with the cooler or the case fans.

UPDATE:

So i bought a decent cooler and am getting 40-60C now :) The problem with the crappy cooler was a terrible thermal paste job, it ended up only spreading to 2/3 when i look at the cooler almost 1 of the 2 heat pipes wasn't covered at all :/
