cpu over voltage error, is it really? or just a bad sensor.

I'm running:

Ryzen 7 2700X

Asus prime X470-pro

500w bronze seasonic psu

So when I started my computer today, I was met with a "cpu over voltage " error.

In the bios I was getting a reported voltage of around 1.9v.

The first thing I did was try to manually change the voltage in the bios,  but couldn't manage it.

Then I swapped everything over to a new psu, but the issue was unchanged.

I turned off voltage monitoring in the bios, loaded windows & got all the analytics I could.

Here's the data:

  • Cpu-z reports  1.45v - 1.94v
  • Hwmonitor      0.83v - 1.50v
  • Ryzen master 1.28v - 1.46v

My question is: Is my cpu actually over volting, or is the mobo giving a bad reading.

Things you can try in this order.

  • clear cmos
  • flash bios
  • try different cpu
  • the above fails RMA the board.
