Tracking (my own) location from an ip. I'm in south bank london?

So if i look at the location of my ip it says

im not in london im near birmigham. 

 

Why is this? Just learning how stuff works.

it tracks the place your ip connects to, its often the closest city in your area, you cant track someone precise address via ip, at least not easily..

That is correct because it is based off your IP address and which data center/exchange it is located at. My IP shows that it is in Stanmore when I am in Harrow..
