Looks like they're doing high end for now, just like Intel and Nvidia.. The 2080 ti is a good choice when prices drop haha.

By the looks of things, this outperforms the 3070 by a significant amount

WAIT FOR INDEPENDENT REVIEWS

Anyways, looks pretty decent. Pricing is a little too high for the 6800's IMO. BUt love that they made them all 16gb, albeit only gddr6 and not X.

Was probably to save on power usage, also the bandwidth loss might be made up with the new cache

Was there any talk about a DLSS competitor?

Summary:

Three graphics cards announced:

RX 6800:

Compute units - 60

Frequency - 1815

Memory - 16GB  GDDR6

Cache - 128MB

Power consumption - 250W

Performance (according to AMD) - 18% higher performance than the 2080 Ti on average

Price - $579

Sales starting - November 18

RX 6800 XT:

Compute units - 72

Frequency - 2015

Memory - 16GB GDDR6

Cache - 128MB

Power consumption - 300W

Performance (according to AMD) - Same as the RTX 3080

Price - $649

Sales starting - November 18

RX 6900:

Compute units - 80

Frequency - 2015

Memory - 16GB GDDR6

Cache - 128MB

Power consumption - 300W

Performance (according to AMD) - Around the same as the RTX 3090

Price - $999

Sales starting - December 8

Other stuff announced:

  • 50% higher performance-per-watt over RDNA.
  • Infinity Cache - A new cache on the GPU that allows for very high bandwidth at low power consumption.
  • Support for DirectX Raytracing, DirectStorage and Mesh Shaders.
  • RDNA3 will launch at the end of 2022.
  • Rage mode - A one-click overclocking feature.
  • Smart Access Memory - Didn't give us much details but it's a way for an AMD system with a 5000 series CPU, 500 series motherboard and RX 6000 series graphics card to share memory which increases performance. Smart Access Memory and Rage mode combined brings somewhere between 2% higher performance (DOOM Eternal) to 13% higher performance (Forza Horizon 4).
  • AMD has two latency reducing features. "Anti-lag" which reduced latency in Fortnite by 8ms, and Radeon Boost which reduced it by 23mn (37%). Please note that Radeon boost is only available in select games while I believe anti-lag is available everywhere.
  • AMD FidelityFX - AMD libraries that allows game developers to implement certain features in their games. AMD's answer to Nvidia GameWorks. This in itself is not new, but they have added more features to it. Ray Tracing, VRS, Super resolution (not available yet), denoise, and some other features.

Well, that was interesting. I'll still be going Team Green because the things I need GPU power for just work better with them anyway and they're not really giving much away at the low end for now. Kind of on par with NVidia but we've at least got leaks about the 3060 which is what I've got my eye on. But it's good to have competition in the arena.

Nice to see AMD perhaps on par with NVIDIA again! Hopefully their numbers hold up well to independent reviews 👍

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

i was gonna keep my 2080 ti cause of the 30xx power draw and pricing (wasn't gonna get a 3080 either way), not anymore, 6900 xt it is, gonna wait for partner cards though.

I'd still get a 3080 over the 6800 xt if i had to pick though, for rtx and dlss.

Considering all of AMD numbers have been with Rage Mode and Smart Access Memory, I'd wait for independent reviews.

Not much about RT capabilities or performance in the presentation.

the leaks indicate RT is about 20% slower and no dlss type upscale, but for 1k...oh man.

Maybe existing games with raytracing were simply optimized for Nvidia hardware?

I couldn't care less about RT and DLSS because none of the games I play has them. So I'm pretty much hyped for the 6800XT!

Unless nVidia sorted out their bullshit launch, AMD for me right now.
