Demand for 3070 vs 3080

Bobbysixjp

Just wondering if the demand for the 3070 will be more or less than the 3080 when it released. The 3070 looks to be on par with the 2080Ti so it is more of a known quantity whereas the 3080 was more of a new card if you know what I mean.

I can see lots of people wanting to upgrade from older cards but they might not be the kind of people willing to pay over the odds for a newly released card.

Its hard to say and it really comes down to Nvidia's stock levels more then anything else.

But its got similar performance to a 2080 ti for something like half the price so I could see it being a hot item.

I wanted an RTX 3080 but I've essentially given up on that idea entirely due to the long term lack of stock. I'm currently hoping AMD comes in with something on par tomorrow.

It's more "budget" priced. I see it being harder to get unless Nvidia and partners have a lot made already.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

I agree that it may be more popular because it's cheaper, but it's not really an enthusiast card so it's more likely to appeal to those people who are not obsessed with having the latest and greatest PC components as soon as it are released. So although it will be a very popular card I think it may not be as in demand when it launches as the 3080 was.

*same performance as a 2080ti*

*not an enthusiast card*

i dunno my dude, demand for these cards is going to be insane. stock is hard to get for a 1500 dollar card right now, let alone a 500 dollar one thats like 3/4ths the performance

topics i need help on:

Spoiler

my "oops i bought intel right before zen 3 releases" build

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (placeholder)

GPU: Gigabyte 980ti Xtreme (also placeholder), deshroud w/ generic 1200rpm 120mm fans x2, stock bios 130% power, no voltage offset: +70 core +400 mem

Memory: 2x16gb GSkill Trident Z RGB 3600C16, 14-15-30-288@1.45v

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15S w/ white chromax bling
OS Drive: Samsung PM981 1tb (OEM 970 Evo)

Storage Drive: XPG SX8200 Pro 2tb

Backup Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 4TB

PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 750W w/ black/white Cablemod extensions
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C Dark (to be replaced with a good case shortly)

basically everything was bought used off of reddit or here, only new component was the case. absolutely nutty deals for some of these parts, ill have to tally it all up once it's "done" :D

Aren't the 3080 and 3090 the new enthusiast cards now? Even though they are hard to get hold of, I can't see someone who is chomping at the bit to get their hands on a 3080 settling for a 3070. If you also consider that AMD are launching new cards tomorrow, then I can't see demand being that high, but I could be wrong.

depends on what's an enthusiast, im guessing theres not that many people running off to dunk their cards in LN2 or something. the majority of consumers just want good bang for their buck and we've had a whole generation that was the exact opposite lol

Just remember, AMD is announcing something tomorrow, but it isn't necessarily going to be performing as well as they say. Obviously wait for benchmarks.

More demand most likely, less expensive for a ton of performance!

Yes but its for people "more" on a budget scalping isn't going to demand the same type of premium so normal people may be able to get it.

That is true, scalping will likely be less effective and will likely sell little to no GPUs

So basically, we can expect more stock and less scalping with the 3070 release (fingers crossed).

Hopefully 5-15 minutes. 5 minutes is actually enough time to do the checkout. We’ll see tho

I won’t be able to do the purchase at that time, so I’m really hoping that my mom can be fast enough. Not blaming her if it doesn’t work out though, I’d probably screw up just the same

Here's some tips! Save your address and credit card to bestbuy/nvidia store (whichever one has stock or both just in case). Use bestbuy mobile app and setup the "buy now" button (look it up) and then just one click buy

The availability will be near to 8% of demand is my 50 cents.

I edit my posts more often than not

thanks for the helpful tip but it came too late, far too late. Oh well, I have a discord bot tell me when cards are in stock now.

I will say your latter point is a great incentive for Nvidia to ramp up stock ASAP.  There are a lot of people thirsty for graphics cards due to the bot/scalper situation, and if AMD has a decent amount of stock, would be a lot of people jumping ship not willing to wait for Nvidia to get their sh*t together.

I would think they would strategically time a large stock increase for around the AMD launch to not lose out on sales.
