When will they learn?

 

You cannot, and will not, stop piracy. There is no real discussion on this. People like myself will find a way around your bullshit.

 

I try to be fair. If I find your content worthy, I will purchase it even after pirating it, if not, I will not.

 

End of fucking story. Either go commercial and make it "free", or piss off. I'd purchase the movie Greyhound, if it was available on a platform that was reasonable. But because it is not, I will not.

 

Fantastic movie, but whoever thought it would be a good idea to lock it down to Apple, is a freaking moron. Just sell me your goddamned product directly and stop trying to establish walled gardens that I have no interest in, I'd rather take my chances pirating, or just never see the content to begin with.

 

You  can make legal arguments all you want, but the reality is that this is a discussion of value. If your content isn't valuable enough to pay for, I'm not going to pay for it, and in this day and age of shitty content, I'm going to put time and effort (of which I have an abundance) into viewing it without paying for it, to save money (of which I have very little).

 

Essentially, they vastly overvalue their content, and are continually surprised by how many people don't care enough to pay.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

Personally I rather watch Movies and Series with Free Streaming Services like cwtv.com, IMDB.com, YouTube Movies, and the like. No need to Pirate at all.

You act like we're communist China.  Corporations here are not extensions of the government.  Some do work with the government, but even then it doesn't mean they're automatically going to sell out their customer base.  Your "argument" is nothing more than a pithy quip, lacking any real substance.

That's not even conjecture, that at minimum requires an argument to be put forth.  His statement assumes those reading will be like minded with him, and that he doesn't need to explain because the reader will infer it for themselves.

Gotta use a VPN server in a not so well developed country (east europe, south America, Asia ...) because companies prefer sue in western countries.

With that mindset you are going to end up like these people. It's not being hyper paranoid it's simply realistic. The government doesn't need a warrant to get your data so it's stupid to use a VPN provider inside any of the 14 eyes countries. Are they going to comply with the feds? Maybe or maybe not. It's just an unnecessary risk that doesn't need to be taken though. Also the claims I make aren't based upon nothing. It's based upon what's happened in the past with VPN providers.

There are several ways to track a user including from within the OS itself as well as embedded cpu code, not to mention other devices on the network that are identifiable and can poll data.

A VPN is only a small part of being anonymous, with the rest relying on disposable hardware, software, and networks.

While a VPN can help make you more anonymous, it's not a magic bubble that hides you from the world.

In my personal opinion, A VPN creates a false sense of security among users.

The real question is just how far someone is willing to go to track you and whether they can prove anything once your found.

Hang on, let me get this straight. Defendants blah blah registered for paid accounts with PIA, and PIA server addresses were used in the torrent.... anyone else here seeing their math is wrong?  Looks like they just added 2+2 and got 8600 IMO. Just because x users registered for paid accounts with PIA doesn't make them the guilty party.

 

This should get thrown out of court.

The whole VPN situation is messed though. You really need to research more into it in general since it's not 1-button-all anonymity like many may think. I tried PIA for example, wanted to see how ping will be, nope it's just worse, refunded.

Why did you think using a VPN would improve your ping? That doesn't make any sense. Of course a VPN will just increase latency, not decrease it.

It wasn't the sole reason... And I know it can add up to it. Also, it's not entirely true, depends on VPN some can improve it.

This is why , as mentioned by others, you dont use a VPN operated within the intelligence sharing countries.

 

You should also use more than just a VPN for proper security, so that in the event they do drag u into court and/or raid your home, they come out with nothing.

Encryption, secure erase, and kill switches are a must for those who very much feel the need to absolute privacy and security.

 

For the most part, the average joe, including those who watch pirated material, a secure VPN is enough. In this case without further information given, i doubt this will get very far. use of a VPN server isnt enough in a court. In fact it shouldn't even get to court, if it does then im sure there's more info we dont know.

 

Also, if these 'defendants' are ..half whits ...and have used an email address with personal info attached, or one they have accessed without their VPN active. .then much like someone here stated .. a VPN is a tool ..use it incorrectly and u might as well not have one.

Another analogy for the above scenario would be... Robbing a bank wearing a mask that has your face printed on the front of it. Kinda daft.

PIA probably take logs. They are also based in the US meaning they are not very trust worthy

Yes yes the UK is part of the intelligence agency sharing alliance.

 

A VPN here in the UK is also a poor choice. I dont think any1 is bashing the US specifically here. Any country which is a member of any of the 3 main intelligence alliances (5,9,14 eyes) is a poor place to own and run a VPN as ur bound by law and can be forced to hand over any customer details u may have.
