Corsair Fans

woody30

Hi,

So I ordered a twin pack of corsair 140mm pwm fans and was wondering what would be optimal placement for them when they arrive, the fans in case now is what come with corsair carbide 678c case

Is your current config 1 intake in the front, and one exhaust on the top? If so, I'd add two to the front so you have 3 intake and one exhaust.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

Since heat naturally rises, I'd either turn the top fan around or just install it in the front as well, so you are pushing air into the case and it just exhausts through all the holes.

Hi,

I just bought a twin pack of Corsair ML140 PWM 140mm fans, my corsair carbide 678c case just has the three stock 140mm sp140 fans in it. 1 in the front, 1 on top, and 1 in back. Should i place the 2 ML140 fans in the front or place 1 in front and 1 on top beside the existing fans. Thanks. I'm trying to air cool a 8GB nvidia geforce rtx 2060 super and amd ryzen 7 3800x 8 core 105w tdp.

3 fans as intake in the front and the 2 at the back / top as exhaust should be fine

ok so just leave the 1 top and 1 in the back alone and add the 2 new ones in the front? Can I plug the ML140 PWM fans into the same PWM Repeater that came with the case from Corsair?

140mm moves more air and are quieter, so maybe a 140mm on top exhaust.

Off topic but if you're really worried about cooling swap out that Prism for a Noctua fan.

I know they look ugly but they perform like Ron Jeremy before he started to look like Wario.

You also have be Quiet! CPU coolers to choose from, but they will be comparable such as the Dark Rock Pro 4 and NH-D15 or the chromax version of NH-D15, but I don't know the CPU cooler height clearances.

What RAM sticks do you have? If they are any low profile RAM, a Noctua NH-D15 would work as your CPU clearance height in that case is 170mm (Mine is 168 with Vengeance Pro 16GB kits which hit the max of my case).

Yeah then they are similar to mine, so you shouldn't have a problem with a Noctua NH-D15 or the chromax version if you want to change the color.

Just another quick thing, the fan you have at the top, put it more to the back of the case. The way it's positioned now it will just exhaust fresh air from the front. If you put it more to the back it will exhaust hot air from the CPU.

Yea so according to the dimensions below, I should be able to clear RAM no problem, but should I run in single fan mode or dual fan mode for an amd ryzen 7 3800x 8 core 105w tdp?

~Snipped photo above~

From what I gathered online, the difference in cooling between having the 2nd fan and just the single fan in between the towers is maybe 2 degree C difference, if that matters to you.

Sure I got some for you. Sorry for the appearance of my desk, doing HW but I "multitask" with the forum haha.

I got some super glue on the side panel of the acrylic and can't remove it. Had to fix a piece of the acrylic panel on the backside and was messy.

Thanks again for help, that does looks really great on the clearance of RAM

No problem, I'm sorry but the 2nd fan wont fit with your case, so don't buy the NH-D15 yet. I thought my CPU clearance height was 170 but I got that reversed with the case I am getting in the next couple of months...My current CPU clearance is 198mm so I'm at the max my case can go with the RAM so I would not buy the Vengeance RGB Pro RAM sticks due to clearances for the 2nd fan if that matters to you. 2p0UzUkwYNyEiVPhQj5u-33e2-t25JYPBp2gnDBdQbGvQKOhftgS4D0t4i9gkW_DFgLC3ydbXb4ziHcsc83IcXSTHOxLBUzoyH3MhdLOnkfNhcszrW5rfJfy4TrThN2GFlaWlSawmOnJChFcZgol12KB0yIr06zF1YFeLQ-US94OsYI72eB0HnnYxkPX_Fs-KToYAsIBnye-C9KCkpZIjNlyBrm4jKVaYb-qfl133irHoj-VbgnHOGK4Dt0dSSQ8BvsQdPP9DPGbHuLKVp4mePfElgDa5ox3H1lr_zEU0vdXx0TXCLVaZ64QWS9SJ2f7RKcNVHDMrPgf5KwSpDP64LLnbiaF8Cjtd_s4HtoA1wTuJyYNn2w-dDmSWCcPH7hS4TxaBt02-SE2CZWMVyeg1vETpQ2eticqE2JKe-NftVVVYQvx6Wu3oLanI69rpImZiFgVodrqNAzGVsT8sfosHY8Hr04ssMB4KZS-rZhLg3MRTyTN152H52N43lESH7FBPILAbOjS7T2rHcvfm-983Qn4oS3Q-QTA4IiMjoduXuLO7fRShaCC1141A6R_S0uSxbrbv7HV5DpM0W2E6lYfK2WUQkP0HaCNkPJ_gB_B9uNXnA6AcHgQllWG0CzzunG46ByfYo39ymX-19GRNilsO7kXwKY_cR61op_uY8tf8uqrkoCuwLjyVpxw2eyt=w997-h1329-no?authuser=0

Hi,

Had a question about my 140mm fans. I'm getting a twin pack of 140mm fans from corsair this week and what would my temperatures do if i placed both of them in the front under the one that came with the case and maybe slide the one that came with the case up just a little bit. So, what I will have is 3 140mm in the front and 1 140mm up top and 1 140mm in the back. Should I do that for best temperature drop or something else? I'm using a Wraith prism cpu cooler for a AMD ryzen 7 3800x 105w tdp. Or what best placement could i achieve the best results thank you? What is the best low profile cpu cooler for this processor as well, it is a 105w tdp.

That sounds pretty reasonable for the case you have. Have 3x 140mm as intakes, 1x 140mm up top as exhaust, 1x 140mm in the rear as exhaust. I would not recommend putting any fans on the bottom as intake or in the future if you have carpets/pets with dust.
