Help setting up s2721dgf

I have had this monitor for a month now, and feel there isn't something quite right with the setup.

 

I got it out the box, made sure it was reset to factory settings, then ran colour calibration using a i1pro following barnacles video guides.

 

My TN panel just feels sharper when loading bios, and looking at some text. Also, when playing games it can feel a bit weird, although may also be caused by being use to the dullness whitewash looking of the TN panel.

 

What is the best way to light the room when playing games, as I usually do this at night when it is dark outside and lights off, as I think this also may have a small part to play due the the poor contract.
