CrystalDiskMark results abnormally high - higher speed than the actual SSD

smokeweedeveryday

I've got a PC set up with 1x 500gb mx500 as the boot drive and a windows 10 mirrored tiered storage space consisting of 1x 500gb mx500 and 1x 500gb mx300 for the ssd tier and 3x 8tb cheapish seagate smr hdds for the storage.

the mx500 boot drive only scores about 330mb/s in crystaldiskmark, but the storage space apparently is above 1gb/s lol

is this a bug?

thank you

The SATA 3 interface max speed is 600MB/s or 6Gbit/s, you can't surpass that. And looking at the storage capacity reported by crystal disk mark it reports as 11 612 gigabytes of storage which is 11TB, I suspect CrystalDiskMark is testing more than one drive at a time.

It is, it is 5 drives used together as a tiered, mirrored storage space

2x 500gb ssds in the ssd tier

3x 8tb hdds in the hdd tier

= total 12TB usable (because its mirrored)

Then it's normal. Also the MX500 can reach a peak of 560 mb/s nearly saturating the sata 3 interface.
