PS5 or RTX 3070?

sparkchomp

I have a 2060 + i5 9600k. I want to use 4K DSR a lot because a lot of games have poor AA implementation.

I play PS4 also and I want to get a PS5 for the exclusives. I can’t decide.

Can you play anything you want to play on the PS5? Then that is probably the better purchase for you. Get the GPU if you play games only available on PC and/or you have other uses for it that require a powerful GPU.

Is 3070 going to destroy the PS5 graphics?

No one knows, but judging based on previous gen consoles

For the same games, yea, PC graphics are higher

But PC also costs more too, so...

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I'd just wait before making a decision beforehand.

As @Moonzy said, we don't really know yet. It's very likely that games will look better on PC. But you're also paying a lot more for a PC than you pay for a console. So it really depends on whether the better visuals is worth the (much) higher price to you.

I'd wait until both are out for a few months and well-reviewed before making a purchase.

It'd come down to what you want to play and how you want to play it.  Platform exclusives might also sway your decision.

It's worth noting that, once you've bought your 3070, you can sell your 2060 for $250-$300 or so, recuperating about half of the price of your 3070. You can then use that money to save for a PS5.

If you saving more money is not an option, then I suppose a point to consider that may speed up your decision is: Do you want better visuals or more games? Buying an RTX 3070 isn't going to increase the number of games you can play unlike what buying a PS5 will do. Is 4K DSR worth it that much to you?

I don't know about "destroy" as these consoles will PROBABLY perform well enough that anything you'd be missing on the PS5 wouldn't really detract from the overall experience.

We REALLY need to see independent reviewers when they do release. Speculation can result in disappointment.

Since you already have a PC I would say get the 3070, it sould be really close performance wise

Main PC [The Rig of Theseus]:

CPU: i5-8600K @ 5.0 GHz | GPU: GTX 1660 | RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz | Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic | PSU: Corsair RM 650i | SSD: Corsair MP510 480 GB |  HDD: 2x 6 TB WD Red| Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro | OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

Secondary PC [Why did I bother]:

CPU: AMD Athlon 3000G | GPU: Vega 3 iGPU | RAM: 8 GB DDR4 3000 MHz | Case: Corsair 88R | PSU: Corsair VS 650 | SSD: WD Green M.2 SATA 120 GB | Motherboard: MSI A320M-A PRO MAX | OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations

Server [Solution in search of a problem]:

Laptop:

Model: ThinkBook 14 Gen 2 AMD | CPU: Ryzen 7 4700U | RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz | OS: Windows 11 Pro

Photography:

Cameras:

Full Frame digital: Sony α7

APS-C digital: Sony α100

Medium Format Film: Kodak Junior SIX-20

35mm Film:

Lenses:

Sony SAL-1870 18-70mm ƒ/3.5-5.6

Sony SAL-75300 75-300mm ƒ/4.5-5.6

Meike MK-50mm ƒ/1.7

PSA: No, I didn't waste all that money on computers, (except the main one) my server cost $40, the intel NUC was my old PC (although then it had 8GB of ram, I gave the bigger stick of ram to a person who really needed it), my laptop is used and the second PC is really cheap.

I like tinkering with computers and have a personal hatred towards phones and everything they represent (I daily drive an iPhone 7, or a 6, depends on which one works that day)

Console games are too expensive, PC all day for me.

I looked into getting a switch and it was about £700 just to get my family up and running...

A gaming PC is a higher initial cost but I have a whole back catalogue of games I can play, no need to buy everything again!

Meh, big difference between game prices on Switch vs Playstation. Playstation games drop in price fast, faster than Steam. Switch games stay high forever, at least the Nintendo first party stuff.

Yeah, sometimes in cases with EPIC exclusives they are even more expensive like tony hawks pro skater 1&2 remaster. I was shocked to see a new release that's more expensive than console.

Look at games like Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Part II, they look incredible on the base PS4 so i think they're going to be able to do amazing things with the Sony exclusives in the coming years.
