RTX 3080. To cancel or not to cancel. WWYD ?

Boyohan

Just looking for some input.

So I ordered the 3080 Tuf one day after release.

When I placed the order I got a preliminary delivery date on Nov 3rd 2020.

1 week later I got a notification of a delay and the new preliminary delivery date was on Jan 4th 2021.

Since I placed my order the price has gone up from 770eur to 910eur (these prices includes VAT).

I will still receive my GPU for the lower price as I had already placed my order before the price increase.

But...

What do we know of the 20GB version of 3080 ?

I read yesterday that these are most likely cancelled/postponed.

I don't feel like waiting for 3 months if a new GPU is released shortly after.

My current GTX 1080 has been great but is now struggling in 1440p.

I average 70-90fps in modern games which is not terrible but I prefer +120fps

What would you do ?

CPU: i9 9900K   Cooler: NH-D15   RAM: Kingston Fury 4 x 8GB 3600MHz CL17   Mobo: ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F   GPU: ASUS 3080 TUF   Case: In Win D-Frame   PSU: Corsair HX850i   Storage: 250GB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe (OS), 500GB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe (Games), 2TB Crucial BX500 SSD (Storage)   Monitor: Samsung Odyssey Neo G9.

This,

The 20GB version was a rumour in the first place, and imo one shouldn't take into account rumours when making purchasing decisions.

I'm in the same boat, ordered an 3080 asus TUF for 719€, pice has gone up to 849€ on the same site.

I'm also pretty sure it won't be June, though it might be January.

I actually expect more supply once AMD launces it's cards and the 3070 releases, there will be people cancelling orders because they feel the alternatives are "good enough".

This will make the waiting line shorter

If your price  is guaranteed I wouldn't do anything

For all we know the 3080 20gb could never have even existed. It's cancelled now according to rumours too so who even knows. Just keep your order and wait it's not like you'll be able to get any other 3000 series card sooner.

How exactly do they cancel it if they never were going to do it anyway?  AFAIK it was from AIB partners only and if their contract says they can release a 20GB card Nvidia can't cancel it for them...

Likely a lot was planned though and now they are already moving on to a refresh and dumping the 8nm cards...

there's no downside to keeping the preorder, the 3080 is currently the most cost-efficient card, a very low % of games need more than 10gb vram, and the 20gb version is just less cost-efficient. Even if it wasn't cancelled. Personally i wouldn't cancel it.

i mean nvidia has a lot of control over what the AIB partners do. if they tell them they are not going to do something they are not going to do it
