Could this be really a PSU issue?

Hey guys I'm new but I currently run an i7 9700 non k with a Gugabyte gaming Z390 mobo and an RTX 3080 ventus OC edition,

When playing games at ultra the PC suddenly shuts down! Thought they were temp issues but it still happens even when the case is open.

Can this be due to the PSU's safety running? I use a Toughpower RGB 750w gold... I asked on an FB group and everyone is blaming the PSU... Is the PSU wattage not enough or do I have a faulty PSU? Maybe a bad GPU? Everything is brand new by the way, bought them a few weeks ago.

without more details and stats from your pc under load we cant deduce much, other than that you shouldnt cheap out on a psu, let alone for such an expensive build and especially for ampere. 750w should be fine for the system but a better quality psu is in order; good, reputable corsair, evga, seasonic, fractal, and super flower units will run you about 120-140 bucks for the wattage you want.

topics i need help on:

my "oops i bought intel right before zen 3 releases" build

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (placeholder)

PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 750W w/ black/white Cablemod extensions

basically everything was bought used off of reddit or here, only new component was the case. absolutely nutty deals for some of these parts, ill have to tally it all up once it's "done" :D

How do I check for that? I did a bit of research before buying it and saw it was a tier A PSU... :/

whats the exact model of your psu? thermaltake makes a lot of rgb psus, many of which are not spectacular. for ampere the psu is a very important component for troubleshooting and making sure that your psu is or isnt the problem will help to drastically reduce the number of possible problems

More than likely the PSU.

The only one I heard did work with the 3080 or 3090 was the 850W GF1.

We have a list of 53 PSU models that are known to work so far on the EVGA forum.

Not that I have seen yet..

Was talking about power draw, not transient power spikes.

Need professional equipment to measure that.

I don't think my HXI and the software is fast enough to read those from what I have seen... The AXI I have coming might be, I don't know...

We can ask him..

Jonny?

I think you guys are correct.  That PSU  can't handle the 3080 transient spikes.  I mean... those spikes easily double measurable power draw numbers, albeit for only a few micro seconds.

Well... 750W should be enough.  The spikes are so fast that even a charge on the secondary caps should sustain them, but then you have to look at how the particular model uses the secondary caps.  For example:  An RM750x works flawlessly, but an SF750 does not.   Because the SF750 can't hold that much of a charge in its secondary caps.

Ah, OK. :)

Starting to make more since now why some PSUs are tripping and others aren't.

Interesting.

I know EVGA has to be beating their heads against the wall with that new GA model. Can't even count how many I have seen shut down over there.
