iPhone 12 Pro so expensive in India that you can fly to Dubai to buy it, come back, and still save money

Rohith_Kumar_Sp

you'd think Apple shifting its production to India for their iPhones will make them cheap as that was their pitch to the Indian Govt when they did get permissions to set shop, well you're wrong, in an other out of touch prices with its customers apples does it again.

Apple iPhone 12 is priced starts at Rs 69,900 for the base variant whereas the iPhone 12 Pro costs Rs 1,19,900 for the base variant. Well, that is not something unexpected. Considering the previous trends, the iPhone Pro models are released with an exorbitant price tag. Now to add to the woes of people looking to buy the iPhone 12 Pro, they should know that the Apple iPhone 12 Pro is more expensive in India than in any other country. Dubai for instance sells the iPhone 12 Pro for Rs 84,000.

Now this rings a bell. The iPhone 12 Pro is comparatively cheaper in Dubai. So cheap that you can actually go to Dubai, buy the phone and come back. Let us explain the math to you for a better understanding.

iPhone 12 Pro Price in India for 128 GB: Rs 1,19,000

iPhone 12 Pro Price in Dubai for 128GB: Rs 84,000. It costs Dh 4,199 in Dubai and if you convert the currency to INR, the price comes down to almost Rs 84,000.

So, should this mean that you can go to Dubai, buy the phone and then come back? Well, if you ask me. It is not that bad an idea. The 12 Pro will go on sale from November 6. So you book a flight for Dubai from Delhi or Kolkata for November 6 or later than that, you can get the return ticket for a little over Rs 18,000.

iPhone 12 Pro Price in India for 128 GB: Rs 1,19,000 ($1,620)
iPhone 12 Pro Price in Dubai for 128GB: Rs 84,000 ($1,114)

The whole point was to eliminate customs price that you need to pay for importing them from elsewhere, i have yet again have no clue what Apple is smoking over there.

India got rid of VAT and switched to GST, didn't help the common man except increase the prices of all equally.

It's so hilarious people yet again going like "omg greedy Apple" yet it's the India smacking ridiculous "luxury" taxes on tech products making them absurdly expensive. Yet everyone rushes to piss on Apple because you're not cool if you're not endlessly pissing on Apple these days. How old are you all, 8 ?

India has luxury taxes on all the phones, why does Samsung Note 20 Ultra is just 1400$ in India 200$ more than the rest of the world but Iphone 12 is 600$ more?

What you quoted is US-pricing. From the same site:
"The Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G will not come to India, as the company revealed in August."

But that also says enough about India's economy, when Google doesn't even want to sell their phones there.

Google always also priced their phones super bad with mid tier components

The Google Pixel 4a was released in India today for a price similar to the Galaxy A71, but can it challenge Samsung’s mid-range device that was brought to India nearly eight months ago?

Quote

The short answer is no, it cannot, Samsung’s Galaxy A71 is a better option for customers in India who may be looking to buy a new mid-range device for under INR 30,000 ($410). We don’t usually compare Samsung devices with other brands but as a smartphone developed by Google and sold in India through Flipkart, the Pixel 4a makes for an interesting albeit surprisingly weak rival.

Looking at the Pixel 4a next to the Galaxy A71, it’s difficult if not impossible to justify the former’s price tag. Google’s supposed rival to the Galaxy A71 has a smaller 5.81-inch display, no expandable storage, no 8GB RAM variant, only a single rear-facing camera instead of four, an 8MP selfie sensor as opposed to a 32MP one, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and not an under-display solution, and an underwhelming 3,140mAh battery with 18W fast charging.

The only advantage the Pixel 4a seemingly has over the Galaxy A71 is that it ships with the Snapdragon 730G chipset instead of the Snapdragon 730 SoC. The former chipset has a higher GPU clock rate but the difference in 3D performance is relatively negligible, or at least not enough to paint the Pixel 4a in a brighter light. And since the Galaxy A71 is eligible for Samsung’s new policy regarding Android OS updates, it will benefit from three years of support just like Google’s device.

going on a tanger aren't we. pixel is still a terrible phone in India regardless, which is why google never even released pixel 4 in India, as samsung has a phone at every price point with better specs overall compared to googles offerings.  to date i've yet to see a pixel phone in real life.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that the Pixel is a better buy than a Samsung in India, but I'm saying that the review is garbage.

If all reviews are like that, then its no wonder no one uses a Pixel device in India.

Edit:
And don't worry, it's the same here in Germany, where everyone seems to buy Huaweis, Honors Xiaomis and Samsungs. I've also never seen anyone with a Pixel, but I came from an S8, went then with a Pixel 3a XL and now got a Pixel 5.

Edit: Wait no, I know actually one more person with a Pixel 3a personally and that's a good friend of mine from England.

It's actually cheaper than what he quoted, 32k was the launch price of pixel 4a and it even went as low as 30k on flipkart in a recent sale

So, this aggressive pricing of google proves if you're being honest. Prices can be reasonable despite hefty taxes.

The reason behind overpriced consoles and apple products is just pure greed.

I mean we have similar prices to Europe for many electronics where also 20% sales tax is imposed.

RTX 30 series FE costs same here compared to Europe but then we see unbelievably huge markups on AIB cards.

In the end, it all comes to the policy of brands as what they are trying to achieve, as much profit as possible or working for customers and never disappointing them with unaffordable price for stuff, some want to deliver and others are just running behind money.

Even HDDs, SSDs, RAM etc. cost similar in India compared to US so it's like every type of component is overpriced and we know why as i cleared those two things earlier

Only thing Google proves is they could be giving Pixels away for free since they actually make big bucks by hoarding user data, not by selling physical devices with puny little margins. Pixels are just means of hoarding it first party opposed to only doing it via Google framework on 3rd party devices.
