Rode PodMic + Behringer UMC22 = Quality or a Big NO No

So, I have been using Audio Technica ATR 1300 for last 1 year 10 months with a UMC22. Its my bday tommorow and i want to Pick up a new microphone. I really love the Rode podmic and i always wanted it ever since it came out.

 

I cannot afford to buy both a Scarlet 3rd gen and Podmic. So for the time being, It will be Podmic and UMC22.

 

Will these 2 work together at all? Or it the podmic as power hungry as SM7b?

The Podmic is like any other dynamic mic in that it will benefit from an inline preamp like a Klark Teknik CT1, FetHead, Cloudlifter or whatever else when being used with a budget interface. Of course it will work without one, it just may not live up to your expectations. Personally I'm a fan of the Aston Stealth as it has a preamp inbuilt but it is quite a bit more expensive than the Podmic.

 

As far as interfaces go, take a look at the UMC202HD if you really want a new interface, it's my usual recommendation for the entry level and isn't too expensive.

Those two microphones are very different. Ones a vocal microphone so sounds reasonably normal and the rode is like a radio microphone. So you will get that deep more boomy voice like a radio guy.

All those microphones you spoke about should work fine with the behringer interface. The SM7B or the podmic are not power heavy microphone. Shouldnt need any extra equipment either.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, see, I'll be the first to admit that the Beringer interfaces (along with literally every other budget interface) don't have the most clean gain, there's a reason just about everyone who owns a 7B for gaming/streaming also owns a Cloudlifter and it's not because the 7B is an easy mic to drive. For sure some of it comes down to not knowing hot to use a compressor/limiter but most absolutely a inline preamp like the Cloudlifter is helpful when working with dynamic or ribbon mics. Inline preamps are designed to have the lowest self noise available so it reduces the amount of gain you need on the interface which in turn reduces noise. For sure you can use dynamic and ribbon mics without one but I don't recommend it, especially when an inline preamp is under 20 dollars....
