bottleneck with rtx 3070 with ryzen 5 3500x??

Phantom_35

im looking to buy the rtx 3070 but due to its £499 price tag most of my budget will be blown so im wondering whether if i use a cheaper cpu like a ryzen 5 3500x or even a ryzen 5 3600. also it would be really nice if you guys could tell me how much bottleneck i would be getting if any. Thanks in advance!

what resolution?

the 3600 is pretty good, at 1440p and 4k you won't see any improvement by going with a better cpu.

it might slow you down a bit at 1080p, compared to a 10900k, depending on the game.

I'd really try to get the 3600 instead of the 3500, for SMT.

To answer your question though, it should work fine, especially at 1440p+.

Here's GN's review of the 3600 - the gaming tests are run with a 2080Ti, which should be around the same as with a 3070, if we're to go by Nvidia's numbers (though you'll obviously want to wait for actual reviews first):

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Display: Gigabyte G34WQC
