Agree with your argument, but the reality I find is that I just don't want to deal with AMD drivers if at all possible as I've had far more problems with them in the recent past (CPUs since Ryzen, GPUs since Polaris) than I do with equivalent Intel or Nvidia offerings. Could I give you statistically valid proof of the above? Nope. It might well be a Windows 10 thing for all I know, but regardless of why it is happening, it is happening in the first place is my biggest problem.

I heard somewhere that the first RDNA cards (5700 etc.) had hardware-level bugs that they needed to work around, if that really were the case, it would explain the problems. Is RX 570/580 level of stability acceptable?

 

For driver optimisations you just get lower scores, but most buy GPUs based on those scores so if the drivers are bad in that way it can only improve. Stability is another kind of a problem because games could be benchmarked but then crash when playing, making people actually sell the GPU and go for Nvidia.

from what i see arounf the net, both happen, but there is lots of people that find out that their psu wasn't as good as they thought, or their cpu oc wasn't 100% stable, or their hdmi/dp cable wasn't good enough etc, recently some people also found that installing the drivers without the UI resolved his black screen problems, and another also posted that not accepting data gathering during install of the driver fixed his problems

my 480 has been stable since release only crashes i have had were due to me being lazy and not testing overclocks enough

I also agree AMD drivers are a mess and don't even remove everything when you un install them, like had "AMD crash reporting" (or some such) running for weeks after I had an AMD GPU installed, there wasn't even an option to deinstall it! 

 

I just disabled the service now and it didn't come back... But it's still a mess and just 1 example of many where I get a "hobby/garage" feeling from AMD softwares... 🤷🏼‍♀️

According to Igor’sLAB, a ‘special board partner’ card based on Navi 21 features a boost clock of 2577 MHz. Before we all get too excited, Igor did not mention which SKU this is (XTX, XT or XL). He did say that this is a boost clock, meaning this is not the ‘actual’ clock speed of the graphics card. This Radeon RX 6000 model will likely stay at 2.3-2.4 clocks, where AMD’s ‘gaming clock’ is more representative of what may be seen during gameplay. The data came from a BIOS that Igor got access to.

The funny thing about anecdotal is I've had way more issues with Nvidia drivers than I have had with AMD. I am really hoping the new AMD GPUs are decent as NVIDIA is just not where it's at with their pricing and shady business practices. Not that AMD is some shining perfect company but dealing with NVIDIA on the corporate side has made me hate them a lot

The resolution output options when not running monitor native are also more restrictive than nvidia, who in turn are not as good as Intel in that specific area. In a more simple one GPU, one monitor running state then much of that doesn't apply, leaving only the built in updater as a funny behaving thing.

This is hilarious as a couple issues you mentioned are what I have had from NVIDIA drivers. There was as stretch for about 4 months a couple years back were it was nothing but shitty shit shit Nvidia driver issues. Kernel crashing, overclocks not sticking, settings changing in the Nvidia control panel when I didn't do anything, and so on. Part of me blames windows 10 over everything. But also drivers are extremely complex so I feel for the devs

My biggest grudge with NVIDIA is their garbage ass archaic NVIDIA Control Panel. There is a fine line between "works great so don't change it" and "it's f**king 14 years old software that hasn't changed one bit since it's early day and it's slow and glitchy as retarded amoeba".

 

People constantly bitch over AMD's software, but I've used it on RX580 on relatives PC and I use it on my laptop with Ryzen 2500U and it works flawlessly and don't get me started on how much better it looks and just how much faster it is. I've had a lot of Radeon cards few years ago and never had any really serious issues. I doubt AMD just made it so much worse during time I'm with NVIDIA (GTX 980 and GTX 1080Ti).

 

There are some good things that make me hard to part ways with NVIDIA. And that's "Fast V-Sync" specifically. I have 144Hz monitor, but has G-Sync or FreeSync. And with this, I always get spotlessly tear free image without any input lag. AMD has Enhanced V-Sync, but I don't think it works as good. Can anyone confirm how it works? Any tearing anywhere? Input lag? Can't test it on my Ryzen laptop properly as I don't play games on it much.

I don't know why AMD would use a "shit tier" card to brag about performance numbers. That would be like NVIDIA bragging about Ampere with RTX 3060... Unless they are trolling NVIDIA making them think they still have the crown and then they'll say that was our "shit card" from Big Navi lineup. The top end one would be beyond RTX 3090. That would be a huge dick move tho, but I don't think it's it.

the logic goes, that amd wanted to signal that they did indeed have something really fast, but at the same time they dont want to show their full hand too soon and allow nvidia more time to get ready, if i were a betting men they probably showed their cutdown top gpu, with something close to 72 CUs, after all the 3080 only has 68 SMus, and thus left the fully enabled chip in reserve for now
