High end monitor suggestion

jallenhenry

Hello thanks for stopping by.

I am building a new system in a month or 2 using AMD 5950 & 3080/Navi 21.  Currently using a Dell 24" 1920x1200 IPS.

Haven't been keeping up with monitor tech so I need your advice.

Here are my thoughts:

-Up to $2000.

-Great color accuracy (I occasionally render/photoshop).

- 144hZ+ should be good. I do game, mainly shooters, but I'm not sure on Hz. /higher the better.

-I don't know if HDR & 4k are important as I've never used them. I think I want 4k but is it bad to then game using the monitor at 1440p for more fps? Should I just go 1440p?

-Not sure if panel type matters as long as the color accuracy is great for my renders.

-Not up to speed on G/Free-sync either. I assume all high end monitor come with it.

-Ultrawide could be neat but not absolute. I've read curved monitors make accurate rendering/photoshop harder because the lines are not straight so that concerns me.

In short, Im looking for a serious upgrade from my current monitor.

Thanks all for the advice.

acer predator x27 is 4k 144hz with great colours.

It doesn’t have DSC so it’s limited.

I would pick the LG 27GN950.

A lot cheaper.

Few questions:

I see the x27 was made in 2018. Is there nothing newer thats better since then?

Is 27" @4k big enough or should it be closer to 30"+? Ive read that 1440p shouldn't go bigger than 27" so it made me wonder if 27" @4k was to small.

I assume some games would be best played at 1440p vs 4k for fps. Does gaming @1440p on a 4k monitor look bad?

Hmmm, So are these 2 the best monitors under $2000?

Best 4k 144hz monitor in market is Lg 27gn950. It have very good color accuracy and HDR 600.

If you want 1440p 144hz go for LG 27gn850.

Both are factory calibrated and if you want to do rendering or other color accurate works just pick IPS panels. Don't go for any other panel type.

Yes, there’s a new X27 coming, but for now, it’s going to be 32” size (X32).

4K looks immense on 27”, so pixel dense, it’s fine for gaming IMO however if you do a lot of desktop work/productivity stuff, then 32” can be better to utilise the res.

I would say you have the PG27UQ & 27GN950 as the best monitors, but my money would go on a 48” LG CX.

Out of those 3, you can’t really go wrong.
