My experience with a 4K monitor in 2020

Hello! 

 

I recently purchased a new PC monitor: Dell P2415Q (4K, UHD, 23.8”, 3840x2160 @60Hz). 

 

This monitor is amazing! 

It has crystal clear image, with great colour accuracy, good contrast, and the best monitor stand I know of. 

 

SCALING IN WINDOWS 10: 

•As you can imagine, the display is being scaled by Windows by default at 200% (recommended), so items won’t look too small. 

•All Windows 10 & Microsoft Office tools will take advantage of the scaling immediately. 

•New programs will take advantage of the scaling immediately. 

•Some programs won’t take advantage of the scaling by default, but they can be fixed by editing program properties, and changing “High DPI settings” (example: Propellerhead Reason v5.0). 

•Some older programs won’t work well, no matter what. They’ll either look big & blurry, or clear & tiny (example: Nullsoft Winamp v5.66). 

 

Overall, the 4K experience is a positive one. It’s a forward move.

For 4K, you should get a 27" or 32". 4K really shine with bigger monitors.

that depends on the depth of your desk.

In my case a 27” monitor would’ve been too big. I would’ve rotated my eyes from an edge to the other of the panel, especially when doing actual work (not gaming or watching media stuff).

UPDATE:

 

Hello! 

 

Like I said earlier, I bought a Dell P2415Q 24” 4K monitor. 

I was thrilled as I got it, but about 2 weeks later I noticed that the screen had some faint horizontal grey lines on the center of the display. 

That monitor got replaced by another one, of the same model, that had the same issue. 

Finally I’ve got my money back. 

 

Now I’m looking forward to buy one of these 27” 4K monitors: 

1. BenQ PD2700U; 

2. ViewSonic VP2768-4K; 

3. Dell U2720Q. 

 

Can anyone make a recommendation?

The idea is that I don’t want a gaming monitor. 

I want a 27” 4K IPS professional, calibrated, color accurate, monitor at about $500.

Image quality looks amazing.  I use it for productivity though and have never gamed on it.  2 monitors fit my use case well.  I would have liked to have tried a 32" 4K monitor for a week or two, but I think 4K on 27" would be too small without scaling.  You might want to look into this:

I wish there was a place that let you try out monitors for a week or two.  I spend so much time behind a monitor for work, I really want the best setup.

But this LG is cheaper, has better factory calibration (but worse adobe rgb) and it has freesync in case you want to play some games also.

It’s a good comparison. 

 

In the end, I’ve made my decision: I’ll go with the BenQ PD2700U. It’s a good quality monitor, highly reviewed on YouTube and it’s FreeSync compatible.

In the end... 

 

I chose the ViewSonic VP2768-4K ColorPro monitor which is amazing in terms of image quality. I’ve never seen a better looking screen. Ever! 

 

It has no G-Sync or FreeSync, but I turned on the Nvidia Vertical Sync, and I limited the FPS to 60 (to match the 60Hz of the monitor). 

Everything works flawlessly!

 

I highly recommend this monitor!
