New pc speakers, recommendations??

DublinDude
Hi there,

I have the Logitech Z-2300 for a good few years now which connects to Xonar STX sound card.   I am hoping to upgrade EVERYTHING later this year or earlier next.

I'm no audiophile but I do appreciate good sound.  Right now I don't game on PC but I may get back into that once I do my everything upgrade later.  So its mainly YouTube, Netflix and some music.

Doing some earlier research, I want something sleeker in design. The Z-2300 woofer is huge and takes up too much space on my desk.  (I tried it on the wooden floor under desk but those downstairs were ready to murder me).

With the little research I have done, I am leaning away from the usual pc gaming speaker brands and probably away from the 2.1 system.

Here is what I am looking at so far but I open to better recommendations and suggestions.

1) Edifier R1850DB
2) PreSonus Eris E4.5 4.5
3) Edifier S1000DB  (prob too big and pricey)
4) Q Acoustics 3020i
5) Kanto YU4 (prob too pricey)

Also, out of curiosity, should I invest in a decent sound card or would  the audio on one of the latest motherboards suffice?

Thanks in advance

your mobo onboard audio should be fine unless it actually sounds like hot garbage which is pretty rare unless your running super high end noisy components in the PC like a 3080 and a 10900k where they just create a lot of noise. main thing you should consider in your research is what music you listen to and what frequency range you value most and based on those you should pick which speakers to get also keep in mind that if you value bass you can always add a subwoofer in the future

Keeping the STX and spend all of the budget on the speakers will give you better sound then splitting the budget on speakers and a new sound card

I have a Xonar Essence STX connected to a set of Klipsch R-15PM, verry happy but dont think they make those speakers any more

Yea, I probably don't need to upgrade my sound card.  Is Klipsch considered a good brand for speakers?

While he'll say yes, I'll add my 2 cents..  Klipsch is and has been a premium speaker manufacturer for decades.  Their ProMedia set is considered one of the best PC 2.1 sets you can buy still.

I personally prefer 2.0 over 2.1, and if you cant place the sub on the floor I would not even think about 2.1

Klipsch R-51PM is the replacement for the R15PMs that I use. There is also a smaler/cheaper version called R-41PM
