What laptops come with the 115w variant of the RTX2060?

since I'm in the market for a gaming laptop, my budget allows me to get a laptop that goes upto the RTX2060 for the GPU. since I want to squeeze as much performance as I can out of the laptop, I would like to purchase a laptop that comes with the 115w refresh of the RTX2060. I only know that the MSI GL65 Leopard comes with the 115w variant, but I'm not aware of any other laptops that come with this variant.

can somebody please help and list all the laptops that come with the 115w variant of the rtx2060?

p.s. laptops from brands like eluktronics and xmg are not available in my country of india. the brand's available here are more of the likes of Asus, Acer, dell, MSI, HP, Lenovo, etc.

😕

Here is GPU-Z from my ASUS TUF A15. In the device id you can see "1F15" which indicates the new version (90W in this bios from ASUS). Might also be 115W on other models but never the old 80W version. So this is a first indicator but you will still need to find detailed reviews that mention this.

PC: R5 3600X | GTX 1070 | 16GB 3733MHz | Aorus X570 Elite | Corsair Air 540

Laptop: R7 4800H | RTX 2060 | 16GB 3200MHz

oh, so any rtx2060 listed as the "1F15" is the 115w laptop variant? can I search up this code and find results of all the laptops with this variant?

To my knowledge that is the case, yes. (Correction: 1F15 is indeed the new model but the bios might still be limited to 90W instead of 115W). That's how I picked this laptop... And also it was ridiculously cheap. 950€ for a 4800H and a 2060 :D

But beware before buying that you probably want to replace the screen as it is quire horrific. And also the cooling is pretty on edge and the CPU reaches 103-105°C.

Reference this video for more info:

I recall everything I've said...

Just did a quick sanity check running furmark and monitoring power in GPU-Z..

image.png.e98bba1638e98a01510e5b9632e90b08.png

Max board power is 90W so it seems this is a new 1F15 2060 but still with a limited bios.

But the info with the 1F15 still stands. If a review you are seeing has this info and it is not 1F15 it can't be 115W. But if it is 1F15 as you can see it does not mean it's 115W it may also be 90W as supposed to 80W of the original 2060 mobile version.

Since even I didn't catch that even that I was aware of the new 2060 it's really hard to tell.
I've read the GL65 from MSI has the new 115W, but the review I've found listed 1F11 as model number which is contradicting information.

I've also read the Lenovo Legion 5 seems to have the new 2060 model:

PC: R5 3600X | GTX 1070 | 16GB 3733MHz | Aorus X570 Elite | Corsair Air 540

Laptop: R7 4800H | RTX 2060 | 16GB 3200MHz

yes, i was aware that the tuf a15 has a terrible display and very bad thermals. i would still like to ask you thoug, has the thermals of the cpu and gpu ever restricted or limited your work use? what are the negatives of running it hot at all times while gaming/working on it?

and what do you mean by replace the display? is it something i can do on my own or will i need a professional to do it for me? what i had heard is the sRGB coverage of the display is terrible, and it doesnt get bright enough

with all of these issues, do you still find your a15 usable? did you replace the display as well?

😕

ID 1F15 means it has the newer 2060 version with GDDR6 memory

To know which laptop has 115w variant, you have to look for reviews. These have 110-115w variant:

Lenovo Legion 5P & 5 15

Tongfang Ryzen (ID-O & ID-R)

MSI GL65/GP65 10th gen

Asus 10th gen G/GL line (these are bad, avoid)

(I might miss out some)

Desktop specs:

Spoiler

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB Gigabyte B550M DS3H mATX

Asrock Challenger Pro OC Radeon RX 6700 XT Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (8Gx2) 3600MHz CL18 Kingston NV2 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

Montech Century 850W Gold Tecware Nexus Air (Black) ATX Mid Tower

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 16ACH6

I have unscrewed 2 screws and disconnected the display. Then replaced it with a display with 99% sRGB and 144HZ, IPS from BOE.

I've not had a thermal related crash on this laptop. It is running super hot and the gpu and cpu will clock down a bit to keep the thermals in check.

It has not come to the point that I found it unusable and generally you don't notice that it's running as hot when not monitoring the temperatures. I've just run furmark + cpuburn and the CPU stayed at 99.5°C and the GPU at 83°C while clocking down a bit from 1650 to 1525MHz. I only plan to keep this device for about 2 years and then sell it so long life of the compontens is not my first consideration. And AMDs spec for the laptop parts is 110 or 115°C TjMax which this device is still below even if marginally so it should not have negative effects on the components during their normal lifespan (whatever that means, probably guarantee window).

But if you can stretch it I would recommend you go with another model.

The display replacement is not super hard so after watching a video you could probably do it. But after you've done that you're basically at the price of the other models from Lenovo or MSI which does not help the case.

Me being a super cheapskate I've sold the old laptop display for about the price of the new panel so the upgrade was basically free.

the tongfang chassis laptops are not available in india either :(

the asus g/gl line ups are bad? i was considering getting the asus g15 with the 10750H and 2060 dammit. what are the issues with these?

would the omen 15, legion 5, and/or msi gl65 be viable long term options(4-5 years)

any other recommendations?

😕

yeah i probably wont go with the a15 then. the laptop i purchase has to be of use to me 4-5 years down the road as well as now.

lmao i wouldnt call that being a cheapskate, thats just smart xD

what model would you recommend? i have to make a purchase within the next 10 days, and it is absolutely urgent.

if you're looking for long term, I think you have look into the wrong place - business laptop is the one you should get, with performance sacrifices of course

this laptop is going to have to be my daily driver for both school (computer science and graphic designing) as well as gaming purposes.

what would your recommendations be under a 1200-1300 USD budget?

im buying from india, so a 1200$ laptop would cost around 200-300$ more where i live

between 1,00,000 Lakh INR and 1,40,000 INR (cheaper, the better). a 2060 laptop would be the my best bet, and no 4 core CPUs please, they would limit me during future school use. probably a 6core or better lke the 10750H or the 4600H? fast refresh rate and SSD storage too.

also, even a regular laptop with a dgpu in it would do, i dont like RGB much and am going to disable it anyway, gamer-y aesthetics are not a requirement either.

a huge festival is coming up, and e-commerce sites like amazon and flipkart are going to have laptops on sale with massively cut prices within a few days, so im hopefully going to take advantage of these upcoming deals.

on a side note, if i were to wait, when could we expect mobile ampere and mobile bignavi to roll out? is it practical to wait, since college will be starting in a few months

Q1/Q2 2021. The perf increase isn't that big in laptop GPUs, plus price will not be cheap like Ryzen 4000

i was able to mod mine sometime last year before this thread was even opened took me 3 days of scouring the internet researching which model would work and lots of bios flashes till i finally found one that worked and is pretty stable for the 1f15 bios with a 115w cap but it worked and the max temp in the bios is set to 87C so it will lower your clocks so it will not go over that temperature and i have an asus tuf a15 fa506iv thing is though if you are using this bios the power doesn't come from no where it takes power that would go to the cpu so if the game is both cpu and gpu dependent it will run slower in some cases because since the cpu is getting less power it cannot achieve as high clock speeds as it would with the normal power draw of the gpu because this laptop wasn't designed for much more power draw

but in most cases in the games i play they are more gpu bound so i do not mind it all depends on your type of play style or usage scenario. with this vbios flash in most games i only get around 3.6ghz on all 8 cores which is still decent but i used to get around 4-4.2hz turbo on all cores and my cinebench r15 i used to get around 1750-1805 but now i get 1500-1600.

https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/30338188

that is the run from when it was not vbios flashed stock

https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/37837992

and here is my current performance with vbios flash

im not sure the rules on uploading so i'm not going to upload it unless im sure i can
