Advice to upgrade PC please

I was looking at upgrading my PC with a Ryzen 7 5800x and a B550 Motherboard but.. I'm not impressed with AMD lately due to the Intel level of price where I can just buy an Intel CPU and overclock it.

Should I get the Ryzen 7 5800x or an Intel alternative? If so, which one? (Not a workstation)

Wait until the independent reviews are out and then decide. Don't buy a new CPU or make a decision just on the marketing of AMD.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Yeah was planning on waiting until like December before I purchase.

Zen 3 will be much better than any intel cpu. that is why the price is also higher. atleast that is what AMD said, im impressed about the Zen 3 performance

Looking at the prices of the 3 CPUs announced, the 5800x is the worst-priced. 5900x is the best bang for buck if you are looking at price/performance or price/core number.

It's never a good idea to buy tech at launch. Either intel is gonna cut prices to remain competitive or Ryzen 5000 will drop a bit after launch or both.

If the numbers are only remotely true, that won't be the case. You won't squeeze another 15% only with standard ocs out of intel cpus

Just think 5900x would be rather overkill..

Thanks lads will stay with Ryzen, currently got AMD Ryzen 5 1600 so it needs an upgrade. Don't wanna get Ryzen 9 though it's rather overkill imo

Depends on what you are using your PC for and how an upgrade to Zen3 would fit with the rest of your components. Going from Ryzen 5 1600 to even a 5600x would be a massive upgrade both for gaming and productivity. But it's best to wait and see if AMD is going to release non-X CPUs or if intel is going to drop prices for their i7 and i9s.

Even though 5000 series looks enticing, I'm not considering upgrading my 3600 any time soon, just because even now I don't utilize it fully. So if your 1600 serves you well, it's best to just save your money until a great deal comes up
