Livestrong bracelet, recommended by Stefan Etienne, The Verge. Also, fight cancer in the process!

I didn’t use one for my first PC build I have one but only use it when sitting on a carpet with the PC in the knee (basically never) you can get one to be safe doesn’t matter doesn’t cost much

I use one, not really in a place with ESD issues, air is too wet.

Still, it cost £3 and I don’t drink takeaway coffee.

No. If you're worried, keep touching your case. Antistatic bracelets are usually a scam, anyways.

In real life, I act like I know less about tech than I actually do.

Main build: CPU: AMD Phenom ii X4 955 Black Edition @ 4,0GHz (Cooler Master 212) | GPU: MSI RX580 8Gb | RAM: 12Gb DDR3 | PSU: Chieftec CTB-500S  | Mobo: Asus M4A87TD/USB3 | Storage: Seagate 500Gb HDD

Yes, I'm aware my CPU is a huge bottleneck. No, I don't really care.

Laptop: Asus TUF FX505DT 60Hz 8Gb model

*** Thread locked ***

This went to bit too far on derail.

@Tucci149, building on carpet is not recommended, but I too have done it. The most vulnerable pieces are RAM and CPU, more so with CPU when socket is not protected. Otherwise components are shielded against ESD. You don't need bracelet, you can just ground yourself by connected PSU to wall socket and touching metal parts.

I would recommend you building on wooden, cardboard or maybe plastic surface. Like any table, or wooden floor. So removing carpet partly for example. ESD is surface current, so in that sense just standing on carpet doesn't actually cause issues. But if you want to be sure, just wear shoes with rubber soles when doing those critical parts.

Those still bashing on The Verge thing, grow up. Thats old news, and even Linus has said that you should just stop and let it go. Also, derailing and hijacking threads is against our rules. It counts as pointless and unhelpful posting.
