NH-D15 mounting mechanism

lololohahaha008

Hi,

Is it me or the mounting mechanism on the Noctua NH-D15 requires an uncomfortable amount of pressure to secure the 2 screws in the middle?? Once I have partially secured one screw, I need to apply a lot of pressure on the other side of the cooler to pull it back, so I can screw in the other screw. Is this normal?

Also, is it ok the put the Noctua fans in 0 RPM mode? Will it hurt the fan? (0 RPM mode is under 40C)

Thx!

NHL.

Don't tight in one screw while other is not. Turn 2 to 4 times on each screws until both are tight in. Noctua NH D15 mounting mechanism is one of the easy mechanisms on the market.

Tighten the screws evenly. Go until they don’t turn anymore and you’re good.

Yeah ok. It's successful! But I still need to apply some pressure on one side. I turn 1 time on the top screw to keep it in place and pull the rad down to turn 1 time in the bottom screw. Was just scared but now everything is fine!

Thx!

upgrade that cpu. 5960x and 6950x are becoming cheap.

Yeah that's my master plan! (You read through my mind :) ) But I want to start with memory first then GPU. My 5820K is still running good for now. I'll upgrade maybe summer 21 and then I'll need some advice for buying the right one (was looking previously on ebay: so many choice, but don't know which one legit).

No need to upgrade because someone doesn’t like your rig 😄

Gotta laugh out of this one!!

To the OP: When you screw the first screw on with the NH-D15, only turn it like 1/2 of the way on after screwing onto the threads. Repeat for 2nd screw and then turn evenly on each screw until it stops.

This is good general advice no matter what you are screwing in.

Hahaha don't worry! It has been in my planning for months now (maybe even since last year?).

Cooling upgrades was first, since my old AIO was, well, getting old. Then, it's going to be memory. My 8GB is filling up real fast when doing certain tasks, like gaming or CAD modelling. So to accommodate my needs, I'm planning to go 32GB. It's not too much and not too little (just perfect!).  After that, I wanted a new GPU since my new games can only run on medium/low (eg. Control needs to be on Low for a 55-60fps gameplay). But if I want a new GPU, like a 3070/3080 or a 6000 series, I will need to swap my 500W (or 600W, I don't remember) PSU, as named "bomb has been planted", for something more. Currently looking and waiting for sale on the Corsair RM750x. That will conclude the main plan.

Then comes the secondary, or I call, optional plan. My CPU is included in the last plan, because it was still running fine, but I still wanted, in my life, own an Extreme Edition Intel. And the 5960X was specifically my dream CPU when I first bought my PC. I've started some searching, but I will need more advice, since this is my first time buying use parts of Ebay. I know that the "J" bin is a really lot to pick from, but don't know how to distinguish them.

Most of these "upgrades" are mainly to build my little dream PC I wish I had when I was 15. (well maybe the GPU will be out of date bc it's newer than when I was 15, but oh well 😅). I don't know how long will this take but I'm working on it! 😁

Noctua mounting has springs, and if your mobo is already secure in case, its stable to push the amount you need to mount cooler.

As for fans, 0rpm mode is not issue. The bigger issue would be to run fan just at the starting rpm, which for Noctua I think is 300rpm. So you can use 0rpm mode, but also be sure that once they start, they go directly over that starting rpm.

I'll see. I tend to always go with the one on sale! 😅 But yes, I'm aiming for 3200MHz mainly (and 4x8GB, like you said)

I just bought a 6950x. Do you want my old 1660v3? bad overclocker, only hit 41 @ 1.3v.

Literally installed one of these the other day and yes it does require a bit of a push down for you to nail the second hole after you've started threading the first one. It's perfectly normal and nothing bad can really happen as long as you tighten evenly as people stated above. Gotta say I love that cooler. It's overkill for my 3700X but it reduced my noise levels to 0 and the whoosh from the Noctua fans even at full load is pleasing and not annoying

Ada is worse than Ampere which is worse than Fermi, change my mind.
