Why am I using 16 out of 32 gb ram idle

So my computer has 32gb ram and just idling (google chrome is open to write this but nothing else) I'm using 17gb ram, so i opened up task manager and it says 53% ram usage, I looked to find if any apps were using it, and none were, so i looked into the users and it says that my user is taking up about 1.2gb, also none of Windows's things seem to be doing this either, I really need 32 gb ram for what I'm doing, can anyone help?

Are you showing a lot in Hardware Reserved?

Did you cache your ram by any chance?

Just do a simple reformat. That will solve whatever RAM usage problem you're having, AND the username

That's not the answer tho.  He needs to figure out what is causing his issue or he's bound to run into it again.  

 

Reformatting every 3 months is ridiculous.  Annually maybe but every 90 days?  God no.

thats why having a good and fast 256-512GB m.2 is a very good buy if you have a big budget or even a small one

you just uinstall your games from the main, big storage device and format the ssd

and all of your important files will just be safe on it

srsly a reformat, roof to road, takes me the better part of an hour and a half to do and I’m back up and running right where I left off.

Why in Hell would you need to reformat often? Doing that with an SSD will shorten it's lifespan. Oh the OP doesn't have a problem as 32GB of Memory is more then the vast Majority of Users will use. So it doesn't surprise me that half his RAM is idle...

I use half of 32GB ON LOAD it’s not normal that he uses it in idle

He doesn't know. lol. 

 

The operating system will cache memory for background tasks. That's why the suggestion to do a virus scan.

And look through task manager and see how many tasks are running and what's using memory.

 

So go to start up programs and start shutting them off. All the one's you don't need and all the ones you aren't sure what they are, google it and find out.

 

Also, I've concluded on some systems (if not all of them), Windows Task manager is horrible for accuracy. 

From all the reads I've done with "I only have 50% memory capacity", NONE OF THEM ever once complained that they had actually used up all the memory and was suffering system performance from information being pushed to the virtual memory. Generally windows gives notice when memory is near capacity usage.

 

That said.... From one of your screen shots, you have about 20GB available. So you just likely have a lot of stuff going on that posts with the rig sitting in the background. That's my humble opinion.

Right. it's not a big deal to reinstall if you are setup for it.  It's just UNNECESSARY.   There is NO reason to reinstall Windows every 90 days, for 99.999% of users.  So either you're OCD or doing something we shouldn't talk about on the forums

 

Again, it's not reinstalling that's the problem here. It's him figuring out what's eating his RAM.

ok actually i did check with Malwarebytes before i reformatted and it said 0 problems found, and i looked in task manager and control panel for anything that might have been bad, and couldn't find anything, i had backed up everything, reformatting fixed the problem.
