I bought a 2080ti off EBay

I bought an EVGA 2080ti off eBay. And it doesn’t seem to be outperforming my old 1080 too much?

is it fake? Is there any way to tell?

Depending on the resolution it won't have that much of an effect. You might be heavily cpu bound if you are at 1080p. I'm guessing you aren't running a OC'd intel chip? Thats the only explanation. You should be seeing 50 percent at least frame rate improvements

^^^ Yep. What CPU are you running, what game at what resolution? Do you have fps locked/Vsync on?

If you're worried about it being fake, boot up GPU-Z and compare the specs to the 2080 Ti specs on Nvidia's site, make sure they match up.

A fake GPU is going to perform like dog crap at best. They aren't going to take like a 1080 chip or something and make a fake 2080Ti out of it, they are going to take like a GTX 500 series chip or something SUPER cheap and try to sell it as a 2080

Yeah. There's not really many "fake" gpus anyway. That would be hard to pull off. Its not like airpods or something like that where its easy to imitate. Its possible its sorta a "dud" 2080ti or it might be overheating, a fan is out or something. But regardless there should be a drastic improvement from your 1080

There's a bunch of fake 1050 Tis and such, usually old kepler GPUs with a fucked up BIOS flash. Faking something like a 2080 Ti would be a good bit harder, you're more likely to just get scammed than actually receive an imitation card.

There are tons of fake GPUs where they'll take a GTX500 series or something earlier and toss a different cooler on it and try to pass it off as a GTX1060 and the like. They are all over the place these days but in just about every case they have VGA ports or something really odd on them and whatnot making them dead giveaways for anyone paying attention.

Yeah absolutely. But imitating a 1200$ gpu and it being believable in any fashion is nearly impossible. OP wouldn't even get 1080 performance if it was fake

You're running an old benchmark, at sub 1080p, on a flagship GPU that's still one of the fastest GPUs out there.

Run Unigine Superposition on the 1080p Extreme preset, should see a marked improvement over a standard 1080 score.

I've never tried validating, but the card looks 100% legit spec wise. Like I suggested earlier, run a much beefier benchmark and you'll likely see an improvement. A 1080 is already so fast in Unigine Heaven at that resolution that you're probably hitting close to the ceiling of what that benchmark itself can handle fps wise, thus why there isn't much room for improvement even with a faster card.
