Running 011 Dynamic XL without side panel, case fan setup?

Shai Hulud

The Noctua NH-U14S cpu cooler I bought does not fit with the 8 sticks of RAM without moving the fan up about an inch, which then creates the problem of extending too far for the side panel.

Anyone else running an air cooled system without the side window? I don't know where to put the case fans. I have 5 arctic p12 120mm.

I plan to replace with a custom watercooling loop but will not have all parts for around a month, maybe longer. In the meantime how do I adjust to no side panel?

It's unrelated but what are you doing with this system?

If you have to run without a side panel, the only places you could put fans that'd make sense are the top and bottom panels. I'd assume side mounted fans wouldn't do anything because they'd just blow air back into the room without hitting any components.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

this seems about right. tough with open side panel your case basically becomes an open air testbench, so fan placement doesn't matter too much.

also, pretty curious what you use this system for, since it's so focused on CPU performance.

The O11 Dynamic XL and all it's variants are targeted towards water-cooling.

The chassis design ALSO reflects that.

When picking out a case, you need to look at specifications, like CPU cooler clearance, and GPU length clearance, etc.

O11 Dynamic XL supports up to 167mm CPU coolers.

The NH-U14S (the cooler / tower itself) is already 165mm.

You are already cutting it close.

If you are just going to use the CPU cooler temporarily, it's okay to leave the side panel of for the short term.

Just don't stick your fingers, or let your doggo / pets poke their head into the PC.

There are a lot people grabbing the O11 Dynamic / Air, only to find out it only supports CPU coolers of 155mm max.

That's NOT even enough to support an entry level Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition CPU cooler...

IMO, return the case, and get something else that's more compatible.

Running the system is fine...but kind of defeats the purpose to getting that case in the first place...

According to the research I did my components should fit, but the RAM height I found (41mm) is wrong (it's 44mm). Unfortunately there aren't really any high end low profile RAM besides the Corsair LPX which is insanely expensive.

I did buy this case for watercooling. But I am ordering fittings etc. from China to save money, and will not get everything for another month. Maybe sooner if I'm lucky. In the meantime I am using air cooling.

To sate the curiosity expressed ITT...

The system is a workstation/gaming hybrid I guess. I'm using a Threadripper 3970x and 256GB 3600mhz RAM specifically for running game theory optimal solvers for poker (all I do for $ is play poker, live and online), which require a large amount of computing power for reasonable solve times.

Sorry, re-read that you are planning to water-cool the system.

I updated my response to that.
