Ati all in wonder

BrassyBoy69

I've come across an old ati all in wonder, what's this for? Apparently it's a TV tuner and a gpu?

You are correct

Some variants of the All-in-Wonder included FM radio tuning as well.

I doubt it. Most AIW cards need analogue signal.

What do you mean?

It's the golden box on the bottom card. Requires analogue signal cable: (At least seems so)

When it was made, you probably could have used it to watch TV on your PC. But it was built for analog TV; everything (at least in the US) has switched over to a digital signal, so, without a digital-to-analog converter box, the card won't be able to understand the signals it gets, it'll just be noise.

You used to be able to, but I"m uncertain if that aspect works any more.

Plus there's the whole driver issue...

I got one for Christmas once and then spent all day with their support to learn it didn't work with the chipset in my system.  I was crushed having been so excited to get one.  On top of that -- had to pay for the phone call to Canada which was a long one.

But yeah -- it allowed you to watch TV on your PC.  Honestly though it looked like crap when you did because monitors were higher resolution than televisions back then.
