I have bad news for their 16 Core part because this already exists:

So they can't call it 5960X also.

Lol, if the 10c/20t outpreforms a 10900k, I think that intel is screwed.

Yep same but the issue with me is that both for my virtual machines and gaming the 2600x isnt really cutting it no more. (Bought it when low on cash) but I waited for a bigger generational leap aka zen 3 now. But.. I would wait if the new am5 cpus will come around Feb next year but I doubt that's the case. Soo  it's a 5700x for me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Aye but the 10700k is oced. We do not know what the performance will be like with this chip if it has an oc. Will it hold 5ghz? Or the 5700x be holding the 5ghz with an all core OC? Pair that with the ipc gain and you could have it competing the 10700k. Ofc wait till benchmarks. I'm sceptical as well but I would love to have such performance since even that cpu gets most gpus to it's full potential. Like my GPU.

Interesting.

If I hadn't bought my PC last year, I would certainly be buying into that new generation.

 

It's great how CPUs are actually advancing forward in performances, instead of stagnating for YEARS. Maybe this time around, I won't be able to wait 9 years to buy a new computer and just get a new one within 3 to 5 years.

What’s not clear is how many threads what has. 
 

traditionally x7xx and x8xx have been 8/16. The graph shows the 5800x beating the 10900k stock, but losing to it OC.  So that’s an 8 core beating a 10 core stock but losing to it OC.  OC is variable though.  People have gotten the 10900k to 5.3ghz, but a more common all core OC for i9 intel is more like 4.7 or less. one of the complications of intel is the 10900k doesn’t seem to be any more acquirable than the 5800x right now.  There is a 10850k, but it’s not compared.  This isn’t apples to apples this is dragons to unicorns. 

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

i think that this gen will have the x100 and x300 be 4/8 the x600 to be a 6/12 the x700 and x800 to be 8/16 the x900 to be a 12/24 and the x950 to be a 16/32. a x850(?) to be the 10/20 sku. maybe am5 (ryzen 6000/is it zen 3+ or zen 4) will have a  6/12 be the x300 sku and the 4/8 to be the x100. maybe a athlon x000 at 4/8 and a athlon x000g to be a 4/4 with a igpu.

Plausible.  Marketers are like squirrels though.  They dig randomly and stuff their nuts in weird places.   We shall see what we shall see.

They could do that now by simply putting cooling on the back of the mobo.  Saw such a thing discussed on a GN 3080 overclocking thing.  Apparently it doesn’t do all that much.  Too much crap in between. I suppose a daughter card system could be specially designed for such.  My memory is the daughter card solution had various other problems though. 

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

AM4 is for CPUs that have 1331 pins. Not sure how feasible it would be to place them on the edges which such density. But if you could, both sides of the CPU die could be exposed.

This one I think I know:  4 was corrupted by gadding about with apus and had to be put down. Best not to talk about 4.

I'm not sure but the reasoning for AMD not using 4xxx on their desktop parts is it might be confusing because the mobile APU's are using 4xxx.

At least it's not as confusing as Intel using the awful 10 numbering with an also confusing lettering sku, I think 5900X is better than 10900KFCXT.
