Good CPU to pair with 3080

mino636

Hi so i was able one of the lucky people to order a 3080, however my current CPU would bottleneck with it too much. What are good CPU's to pair with a 3080?

I have an AMD CPU/motherboard currently but im going to be getting a new motherboard aswell. Only reason i havent just gotten a i9-10900k is because thats out of my price range, if possible $500 for the CPU would be a good limit

Well what is your current configuration?

do you want to carry parts over from your old system?

So the only thing you need are cpu, mainboard and a case , right?

so how much money are you willing to send on those components?

I already picked out the case, NZXT H510 Elite, so a cpu and mainboard at a max of $700, Although if possible a white rgb motherboard because pretty, the ASUS Prime Z490-A is what I'd get if i got tenth gen intel.

I can find no white motherboards for modern CPUs.

From what I can find, you'll probably be better off waiting a couple weeks to find out if the next generation of Ryzen CPUs beat out Intel in gaming, as that's literally the only category they haven't obliterated Intel in at the same price point. (CPU comparisons only, including motherboard prices reduces the cost in AMD's favor) The announcement happens on Oct 8th.

uh, ASUS Prime Z490-A is white, but yea im gonna wait. Although i dont think its possible for AMD to beat both Intel and NVIDIA in performance since they do both cpu and gpu while intel focuses on one and nvidia focuses on one. We'll see how good they are though, excited!

Looks awfully black on that PCB to me, and awfully grey on the accents.

A Ryzen 5800X benchmark has leaked already, and if it's accurate, then it will outperform an overclocked i9-10900k. So, it's possible that AMD may have no competition for their next generation of CPUs.

If they straight up double the performance of the 5700XT GPU and add 8GB of VRAM, they will easily take the top slot for GPU performance as well. (since that would be 3090 performance in the 3080 competitor)

We'll see won't we. :)
