Best RAM for my setup?

Rstolpe

Hi,
Today I have Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 / CL16 / 3200 MHz / DDR4 SDRAM ( CMK64GX4M2E3200C16 )

And I'm wondering if I get any performance boost if I upgrade to 4000MHz or 4400MHz memory with maybe better timings? 64GB is not must have 32GB is fine also. ( 2x16GB ) I have 4 slots so I want two empty if I need to buy more RAM later on.

I have the MSI Meg z490 Ace with a i9 10900k and the GPU is a 2080 Super.

You're not missing out on a lot running a 3200 kit, the performance difference does not justify the cost of a new kit, if you really want faster clocks, you can just manually overclock this kit and see how far you can go with it.

PC: Motherboard: ASUS B550M TUF-Plus, CPU: Ryzen 3 3100, CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34, GPU: GIGABYTE WindForce GTX1650S, RAM: HyperX Fury RGB 2x8GB 3200 CL16, Case, CoolerMaster MB311L ARGB, Boot Drive: 250GB MX500, Game Drive: WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD.

Peripherals: GK61 (Optical Gateron Red) with Mistel White/Orange keycaps, Logitech G102 (Purple), BitWit Ensemble Grey Deskpad.

Audio: Logitech G432, Moondrop Starfield, Mic: Razer Siren Mini (White).

Phone: Pixel 3a (Purple-ish).

with intel depending on cpu core overclocks you actually want to be with ddr4 4000+

If you dont do manual overclocking you are fine with that dirt 3200 cl16 kit.

But if you increase your CPUs core clock each step requires more bandwidth. 5ghz is fine with ddr4 3600, 5,2ghz is fine with ddr4 4000

Bandwidth / latency performance always scales linear unless you are bandwidth bottlenecked..

If you have faster ram your CPU will become faster depending on how well the application you use it for can utilize cache.

If a CPU spends 50% of it's time waiting on ram, and you make the ram 50% faster then the CPU will become 1/(.5+.5*.5)= 1.333 times faster.

If it spends 10% of it's time waiting, then the speed up is 1/(.9+.1*.5)= 1.05 times faster.

The benefit is always positive, but depending how well the application can use cache, it may be large or small.

This is scientifically proven since 1988 and is called Gustafson's law. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustafson's_law

Ignore plebs that dont know it better. Fortunately you can get ddr4 4000 cl15 kits nowdays, a year ago this wasnt actually even that easy to get from manual OC,

so if you are overclocking your CPU i recommend looking into a 3600cl14 kit atleast with manual overclocking, or buying the expansive 4000cl15 kit if you want enough to not worry about and tweak a little.

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x3D | MoBo: MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk | RAM: G.Skill F4-3600C15D-16GTZ @3800CL16 | GPU: RTX 2080Ti | PSU: Corsair HX1200 |

Case: Lian Li 011D XL | Storage: Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe 500GB, Crucial MX500 500GB | Soundcard: Soundblaster ZXR | Mouse: Razer Viper Mini | Keyboard: Razer Huntsman TE Monitor: DELL AW2521H @360Hz |

Perfect! I don't overclock my CPU 10900k I'm on intel default BUT it's boosting to 5.0 to 5.3 and I can see it in HWiNFO64 it's never under 4.9GHz if it's not idling.

search for benchmarks on youtube how your most used applications scale with memory speeds. IF you use your PC only for gaming your FPS could increase significantly if you play titles that are mostly cpu bound. So depending on the game, resolution and graphic settings you can definitely increase performance with faster ram.

My Mobo do support this:

CMK32GX4M2F4000C19

https://www.corsair.com/eu/en/Categories/Products/Memory/VENGEANCE-LPX/p/CMK32GX4M2F4000C19

Maybe I'll go for the CMK16GX4M2K4000C19 its the same as above but it has 2x8GB instead and if I buy 4x8GB I get 100Euro cheeper then 2x16GB

Is that a good RAM set?

Today I have:

CMK64GX4M2E3200C16
https://www.webhallen.com/se/product/311673-Corsair-Vengeance-LPX-Black-64GB-2x32GB-3200MHz-DDR4-CL16-CMK64GX4M2E3200C16

The 3200GHz memorys has CL 16 and the 4000MHz has CL19

for ram check out RAM QVL not board QVL, Board QVL lists are less accurate and do not include that the RAM is working with the advertised speed.

Check out G.Skill F4-4000C15Q-32GTZR

So the RAM that I was linking to don't work? I'm confused.

I'll check out G.Skill.

the kit you have linked has very slow timings.

Well it seem that I will buy them your told me next month.

What I have read it can increase FPS in games with 20-30?

well with some minor manual tweaking you can really get alot of performance out of it. A perfect example for this is this video:

even if you dont do manual core clock OC, you can still do minor tweaks to the memory's XMP profile.
Like: tRFC, tREFI, iO-L and RTL to get a decent bump, very easy to do with the G.Skill kit.
