How long do you folks think a 5700XT will last as a competent high refresh 1080p card?

Mister Woof

Obviously when paired with a good CPU, and with some exceptions for certain games. Target is 100fps+. Presently, in every game that I actually play, I'm able to usually get more than that that at 1440p.

I've had mine for a year now, and have been trying to land a 3080, but I'm thinking of reconsidering. I might just start playing at 1080p again, and maybe even just ride it out until it dies on me.

Maybe get RDNA2 when it launches, or get into the ray tracing game once that's been really well established by both manufacturers.

Considering mine is still capable of 1440 60 with almost every game I have I'd say quite a while. It was an excellent value card. At the very least I would wait for RDNA 2, with how happy I was with my 5700xt I imagine this next line of GPUs from AMD are going to be very competitive (at least I hope).

Yeah, I just stole my son's 1080p/144hz display (IPS) and its a bit better colors than my AOC, and it doesn't really look THAT much worse. I am able to get a lot better FPS though. Mostly 144fps cap without any real strain on the GPU at all.

that 1080p SOTR benchmark got to you huh

Yeah, lol, and inability to get a newer card that I wanted.

Maybe wait 6 months for both cards to come out and some deals.

honestly i dont see it being a problem for 2 more years for newer AAA games at 1080p 100fps, i might be wrong though -stare at flight sim-

but why worry about it now lol, just upgrade when it's not enough, ezpz.

you should be glad you didnt get the 3080

seems like nvidia overestimated their GPU's boosting ability, not confirmed reason, but that's my suspicion after reading the troubleshooting thread (lowering clock speed solves issue)

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Honestly, idk if it's just me based on the monster of a hype train over the 3000 series. But I was slightly underwhelmed with them. I mean they're better than the 2000 series don't get me wrong, but that's not saying much

I redeemed the game, installed it, and played it for 20 minutes.

The end

Remember when the RX 580 and GTX 1060 can do 1080p60 Ultra in all games? Not today, visual fidelity in games have been improving significantly this past few years. The 5700XT is meant to be 1440p card tho so it probably can do 1080p60 Ultra until 5-6 years from now.

Probably for a good long while. Depends what you normally play.

5700XT should still be good for 2 generations imo. I pretty much maxed out FH4 at 4k and was getting like 55fps with a 5700XT, seriously good card for the money.
