Microsoft To Buy Bethesda Studios For $7.5 Billion

22 minutes ago, MoozOfDoomz said:

I wonder what will happen with that time travel game that they showed off during the ps5 event. It seems the way to go now is switch/PC or Xbox.

Ahh its called death loop. Not a ps5 exclusive anymore. I wonder how that will work.

You're gonna carry that weight.

I don't see the problem with this. Sony's been dominating the console market last generation, aren't we supposed to be happy when their competitor strikes back because it prevents them from being complacent?

Also, maybe now Bethesda will be pressured from Microsoft to make better games and decommission their ancient game engine.

Yeah, but with this they get more than 1 SINGLE SOLITARY game :)

Well, to be fair, there are multiple versions of Minecraft (bedrock, Java, and all the now dead versions) each of which were all pretty big bestsellers. Also merch, and other rights from Minecraft that are probably HUGE compared to Bethesda

And they have been expanding the brand too, look at Minecraft earth or Minecraft dungeons for example

Will mircosoft lift them up or will bethesda drag microsoft down? That's the real question. Bethesda worked hard to get to the bad reputation they have now. They'll have to work even harder to get back to where they were at the release of TESV.

I have a feeling that present-day Microsoft would be an okay influence, but I sincerely haven’t much good to say about Microsoft’s existing game studios other than “at least they were not bought by EA”

Gonna be awkward considering that whole no bonus thing for Fallout NV development.

What about a Quake Qlassic remaster?  1, 2, 3 Arena, and 4?  3 would get online servers, but to be honest I doubt they'd do that given that QC is a thing.

Classic Quake before the others.

Microsoft haven't just said they want to buy Zenimax, from what I'm reading the deal is pretty much done and MS are saying they ARE buying Zenimax.

Talk about unexpected. Do you think they'll prevent new Bethesda titles from releasing on Playstation?

Microsoft spent 7.5 billions buying Bethesda. If Bethesda makes bad games, it won't net microsoft more profit nor marketshare, which makes it a bad investment.

So of course it's in Microsoft's best interest to turn Bethesda around.

IIRC it was Microsft, not Sony. Microsoft & Sega always had a strong relationship, some even call the OG Xbox the Dreamcast 2 because its where Sega released all their games when their hardware division failed.

Correction, Microsoft spent 7.5 billion on Zenimax who are Bethesda's parent company but also own multiple other businesses including a pretty large publishing studio.

That would be ID, Machine Games, Tango Studios, Arkane Studios and Bethesda all under Microsofts control.

Doom, Quake, RAGE, Dishonored, Prey, Wolfenstein, The Evil Within, Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.

Is it not obvious? Microsoft don't want to spend 7.5 billion for nothing. They have a console war to win and it'd be stupid not to utilize them.

I don't know about y'all, It doesn't seem great for future Bethesda titles. But who am I to say?

In my opinion, Bethesda had already screwed up by themselves, it might be beneficial for them to have a parent company such as Microsoft. Getting bought out by Xbox/Microsoft should be a good thing. There are plenty of game studios/ franchises that have been bought out by Microsoft that have become more successful and gained more from it. Who knows maybe they'll be able to work with Obsidian again since they were also bought by Microsoft, gonna be awkward for sure after what happened but if they're sibling studios under Microsoft we may just get some actual Obsidian Fallout games again. It would make sense because Bethesda is already pre-occupied Starfield and TES:6, so putting Fallout in Obsidian's court could be possible, just like when they had Obsidian make New Vegas because they were preoccupied with Skyrim. It's possible and I'm excited to see if this acquisition will bring Bethesda back to what they once were. I see this purchase as nothing but a good thing for future Bethesda titles.

Oh nice, does that mean we'll finally get a Bethesda game that won't be extremely buggy on release, only to be partially patched weeks/months later, leaving it to the fans to come up with a proper patch themselves?
