RTX 3080 “Paper Edition” eBay scam

These people def play or played EVE online, sitting in Jita. Scam as old as the internet.

Much much older.  Most scams I understand have names.  Frequently names so old the referents they make no longer make sense making the names seem random.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

This listing wouldn't pass ebay:

Quote

Manipulating eBay's search and browse experience by adding popular keywords in your listings that don't have any relation to your items, or using other tactics that could mislead buyers, is not allowed.

Everyone can be all "hurrr durrr, read the description" but it's blatantly obvious that the listing title is trying to deceive people...hence not allowed.

And oh yeah listing it under "graphics card" category as well as the "item specifics" saying it's a graphics card make this tactic a scam.  The description isn't some magical place where you can put a bunch of fine print.

Can't wait some moronic Youtuber to make an Nvidia hit piece where he says this is a conspiracy from Nvidia in order to screw their customers and somehow make Nvidia more money, and then end the video by saying we should all buy AMD stuff because Big Navi will be great and Nvidia are evil.

Then a bunch of moronic fanboys will parrot that video as the gospel and "proof" that Nvidia is bad and AMD is great.

Only if you set it up so I think I’m buying a real house.  It might even be a good deal if it’s a really good picture.  There are even pictures of houses worth hundreds of times as much.  The problem is these people think they are buying cards not pictures of cards.  This might make an amusing concept though.  Banksy doing a painting of a 3080 could be entertaining as hell.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Are they foolish?  Sure.  Do they “deserve it”?  The “they” and “deserve it” become the questionable ones. Does the duper “deserve” a thousand dollars for cheating someone? Was it some sort of public service?  No.  That’s not why they did it. Who gets to choose who deserves what? That one has already been determined.  In the US it’s referred to as a “jury”  unless the super waives that right in which case it’s called a “judge”.

As a side note there’s an BMW m1 that was painted by some famous artist.  Not a picture of the car, the car was painted.  I understand it’s value is medium ridiculous.  All of these things though are about value of object though.  It becomes an issue when the object being sold is misinterpreted.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Are you listing the picture under "ebay Motors" category instead of Art?

Quit being intentionally dense.  You know the only reason someone is calling something "paper edition" instead of "printed photo" in the title is because they're trying to slip a scam by.  Is your next scenario going to be "say I were to rob you at gunpoint, you fucking deserve it for carrying money around in public, not robbery"?

For a hand done painting on gessoed canvas on a minimum size from an unknown artist $500 might be a reasonable commission price.

Still avoiding the “where is the ad” part.  For theft by swindle to be a jailable felony in the US the amount of money does have to be fairly high, and white collar crime where no one dies rarely gets jail time these days it’s true.  Has more to do with an overworked justice sytem than right or wrong though.   Even the multi-million theft by swindle perps are getting pardoned as long as they’re white and from the right kind of family recently. Short con is like that.  Doesn’t stop it from being a scam though.

The “it’s ok to be illertate argument was ignored because it is silly.
Do you actually want a takedown of the illeratcy thing?  Like “illiteracy precludes using the internet to begin with” or something like that?

My argument didn’t hinge on the catagory. That was someone else.  I’m just pointing out that you’re avoiding it.
