Did ANYONE get a 3080 FE?

3 minutes ago, Blademaster91 said:

And it's for a pre-order! LOL

Wow thats ridiculous, I think the people with more money than sense should get ripped off.

Why you got to hate? Things are worth exactly what people are willing to pay for them.

3090 doesn't release until the 24th. Today was launch for 3080 only.

Oh, I thought it was both for some reason and the 70 later.

Yeah, that's just the site bugging out.  Until the page loads properly, I don't think that's really an indication of anything.

Incidentally I've gotten a few fully successful page loads after posting that (after which the page said out of stock), but it is going back to failing again.  I'm gonna keep trying because I'm just sitting at work anyways.

I meant at Nvidia not bestbuy.

I think they're worth the MSRP, and if selling pre-orders isn't against ebay policy I really think it should be. And these scalpers grabbing up cards and selling them for $2k or more are taking away cards from everyone else.

did everyone's consensus on the founders card change drastically? last i checked it was the most horrific card design to ever exist or something

The 3080 FE design is an enormous change from the past founders cards, it performs pretty much on par with the AIB cards in cooling.

It performs better than all the 2080TI AIB cards, we aren't sure about the 3080 AIB cards. The 3080 AIBs all look to have reused 2080TI coolers though, so it's safe to assume it'll beat them as well.

That was a joke.....

I'm pretty sure absolutely no FE stock existed, and almost no AIB stock existed.

IF there was actually FE stock I'm pretty sure bots were taking all the connections to the site making impossible for the average person to access it.

Honestly this is very poor, Nvidia should have a captcha and other systems to midigate bot usage on a release. Or the should simply have a preorder line, get in line and get one. Not this madness that doesn't work at all.

I hope they make a statement..... They need to apologize.

Maybe vs the cheaper AIB cards, although Jayztwocents has a video up on the EVGA 3080 XC3, according to his review the XC is quieter at the same temps.

The cooler is weird though, it's either you like it or hate it, and I guess you'd have to not mind spending another $50-100 over the FE for lower noise.

its not even the price that irks me (for the most part), its the a) profiteering off of scarcity and b) theyre not proper resellers so you dont get a warranty or returns or that sorta thing. it should be in companies' best interests to protect consumers from exploitation but it unfortunately is not, theyre selling their shit and thats all that matters

Ultimately this is just an example of the same speculation-driven scalping market that has ruined concert ticket sales and the collectible video game market for a while now also ruining PC component launches. Virtually anything sold today that is desirable but has limited quantities available seems to get sold to an intermediary for profit instead of direct to the people who want it for what it is.

It's sad but it's also reality. Some companies go out of their way to try and prevent it while others just throw their hands up and say "whatever," sadly Nvidia falls into the latter camp.

I don't even know what shops in the UK I would go to try and buy one, unless there was a specialist near you.

Yeah I'm on a 980 Ti - If I could wait 5 years, another month or two should be no problem.

I wanted this card for when Baldur's gate 3 came out. I wanted a computer that could handle the game in its worst optimized state.(mine is kinda old now) I'm disappointed but ill eventually get it.

see also: boutique keyboards, slightly limited pc cases, collectibles of any kind, etc

the commodification of scarcity these days is baffling to me. probably over half the people buying anything that is sold in limited quantities arent buying it for the product but for it being LiMiTeD eDiTiOn, or to make a quick buck. its depressing how hobbies and experiences have been affected. the concert ticket shenanigans irk me even more than gpu launches, i'm glad that the one concert ive been to was in a less populated area and wasnt a super big headliner so i didn't get fucked over.

They were on sale on Ebay even before the launch. There's no proof any of the ebay scalpers actually have the cards to sell.
