And I would get one from the various resellers out there, g2a, scdkey, ebay, etc.

Im running a Windows 7 Ultimate key from an old laptop. Gray market sites (probably shouldn't list any in specific) can live for the life of your machine, but they are also pretty questionable, Microsoft could blacklist the key at any time.

the windows media tool just makes a bootaable usb. You don't need to pay to use it

You can buy windows 10 from the microsoft store.

Windows Media Tool is the install format, you don't buy a key from that.  You would buy it from Microsoft as mentioned above.

I've had credit card data stolen at local restaurants, I still eat :)

I'm sure your friend only used that specific CC only a g2a, that's how he knows it was g2a that ripped him? :)

Use Privacy or another CC spoofing app then.

Sounds like its better to buy it from the official site or atleast an approved seller if there is one.

Yeah, if you are willing to dump the 100usd, be my guest. I'm just saying your windows key could be sitting in your closet on the back of an old laptop.

The Home Premium key should technically work for a Windows 10 Home install. You never know until you try.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure Microsoft is still letting Windows 7 keys activate Windows 10. Most of the keys you get on eBay are OEM keys ripped off of old prebuilts.

Id just buy it from microsofts website. THat way you know your getting a legit key.

That’s a good Idea

but please don’t buy the 100$ OEM Keys that are listed on PCPP ( PC part picker )

Just asking ; What about Linux?- it’s for free and free of a lot of bloatware

If you were talking about what I think you were talking about, then i can say that some strands of [NAME REDACTED] can include some pretty well hidden malware. If you know where to look, you can find strands that are actually clean, but if you are paranoid about malware like me, i would rather live with a eBay key

They do work normally ... i have used a W7 key to activate a W10 install less than a month ago.

😄 oh I know but lets be real... Purchasing key from any other source than Microsoft (even if its a legit / working key from lets say eBay) is not legal.

Well, that generalization is wrong. Microsoft's store is not the only place to get legit and legal copies. Many stores sell them too. You can usually tell from price, when its about same as what you get directly from MS. Or bit lower with OEMs.

Also the difference between legit = from deveploper and not tampered in the way, and legal = opposite of illegal = what kind of legislation there is to preserve copyright etc.

Whats wrong with those? $100 for Home is about right, or bit over what I have paid for mine. I think OEM Pro is close to $120.

Purchasing from grey market, the source of the key is still Microsoft, making that even more wrong.

A windows 7 or windows 10 disc? If it's windows 10 then here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 (or look at a retailer like microcenter or newegg if you want a physical dvd or flash drive, note: those are out of date as hell, the iso you get from the thing above is fully updated). And if you need a Windows 7 one then: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7 (note OEM keys don't work for some reason and there isn't really a official way to get a iso without it, also as far as I know some retailers still hold the physical disc). Also it doesn't matter if the key has been used, I've used the same key for 3 machines.
