RTX 3000 series - buy or wait

Mondas42

I know that everyone says wait for the reviews before buying a 3080, and I also know that chances are they will still sell out in a blink of a eye, but my worry is if I don't try to get one at launch and wait - will the prices rise to silly levels due to lack of supply and then stay at the higher levels permanently in a similar way that the 2000 series did??

Wait until reviews and benchmarks

Reminder⚠️

I'm just speaking from experience so what I say may not work 100%

Please try searching up the answer before you post here but I am always glad to help

Price hike is a possibility, there are few choices you can make depending on your own situation.

1) IF you really really need a new graphics card and cannot wait, you can buy rtx30XX, can't go wrong there.

2) IF you can wait do so, since RX6000-series is gonna be released next month (28th), that might stir the pot.

If you can wait for reviews do so. If not then well hope the card is good and get it but do make sure that there is a return policy in case of issues.

I've sold my RX5700XT a little while ago in anticipation of these launches, I'm currently running on a old 1070Ti that's destined for my daughters PC once I've upgraded so I'm in no particular rush. Just don't wanna be stung with price hikes, but I'm hoping that if Big Navi is anywhere decent then it will keep the prices sensible.

no one can tell what's gonna happen, so not gonna suggest to tell you what to do

my local retailer told me they aint getting many stocks for first batch, which is always the case -shrug-

he told me the same thing in almost every previous GPU releases

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Yea, since this generation will get a huge uplift in performance all crypto-miners will be pre-ordering asap. One thing you could do, is like @jaslion mentioned to buy a card from a place that has solid return policy.

Personally I will wait for AMD, since the leaks about 3070Ti and other "rumors". Like RX6X00 549$ with performance between 3070 and 3080. Let's hope AMD really delivers this time.

Prices, even if they hike, will level out. Availability may be tight at first, and I'm sure there will be the inevitable crop of bottom feeders trying to hock cards on eBay for 3x retail. However, stock will level out, especially once the AIB partner cards are out, and prices will normalize, and eventually even go down. Nvidia seems to be on a two year cycle now, and even then, the eventual 40-series will likely be more like the 20-series (incremental, not drastic, performance increases). In other words, you're going to have a few years of these cards saturating the market, so you'll be able to get one for sure at some point. It's just not worth being as crazy as everyone is being.
