RTX 3080 Embargo Lift Delayed til the 16th

Looks like reviews for the 3080 will be delayed til the 16th, according to this article from fudzilla.

The source cites delays in the shipping process of review samples to certain outlets due to the ongoing COVID-16 [sic] pandemic.

I'm kind of bummed about this. I really wanted reviews to hit so I could look at them, determine the card's place in the market and move on with my life. Unfortunately now we have to wait a bit longer and try to look for leaks, which are not fully reliable.

 

I was most looking forward to seeing GN's review today since they have a new fancy air pressure analysis setup that would have given an idea of how the 3080's weird cooler would perform / if it would affect CPU thermals.

 

I'm very interested in hearing from reviewers who actually had this problem (the card not arriving on time for the review to be out on the 16th). It's easy to suspect shenanigans out of Nvidia, though I don't think that's the case this time around.

I think he drinks the blood of young asians. Did you not notice that there is a certain lack of Dennis in recent videos?

They're trying to hide it, but the signs all point into the same direction.

Yes, very disappointed. Want reviews nao! Good that I live in Europe, so our launch comes in a few hours later than the US launch, which means I got more time to do research and watch reviews. :3

More time for testing and maybe better drivers. As long as the embargo is lifted before release, then this is a good thing. People preordering before any reviews are out take the risk.

I don't think two days really makes that much of a difference for anything. Sure, we're excited, but let's be real, only a small percentage of the users here are even thinking about buying one at launch. Apparently the more powerful AIB cards won't even be available until a few weeks later anyway.

I really wonder if there was a problem with the early press release drivers that Nvidia provided that some reviewers discovered during their testing, causing Nvidia to scramble to provide a more developed set of drivers to reviewers...? Press release drivers aren't the final versions that customers will get and in the past there have been reviewers that have retested with release day drivers and seen a difference from their early press release drivers. I actually wouldn't blame Nvidia if the press release drivers were a bit derpy and they delayed a few days so reviewers could retest with more developed drivers in order to get better results closer to what the customer would actually expect to see, and I'm sure the youtubers and reviewers under crunch trying to get their testing suite and reviews done in time would appreciate the extra few days.
