Everyone keeps telling me I should have a Tesla... but I think they're wrong. Finally, after two years, here is my review of the Chevy Volt.

7:20 I don't believe this is correct that the battery SOC window (buffer) increases as the pack degrades. It is absolutely wrong for a 1st generation Volt (2011-2015) and it is unlikely for 2016-2019 model years.

You can read the voltage of the battery pack with an OBD2 dongle and the MyGreenVolt app for Android. 335V when discharged (when engine will start to come on), 385V when done charging, which equates to roughly 20% to 85% SOC window. For 2016+ Volts it is a bit different.
My 2013 Volt has had the exact same voltage ranges at 133K miles as it does with 200K miles on the Odometer now.
You can use the MyVoltCapacity app to read how much capacity remains in the traction battery so you can see degradation level. Mine is at about 85% of original.
 
Air conditioning on Eco just limits the fan speed, it doesn't limit compressor RPM or temperature targets. So u can just leave it in Comfort mode and just be responsible for the fan speed. When heating tho, it's a different story. 
 
10:10, the seatbelt reminder on passenger seat is a common issue. Just keep the seatbelt connected all the time, no more dings.
 
Love my car, fits me like a glove. Mine has standalone navigation but GM stopped HereMaps from developing any map updates past 5 years from the date the car was manufactured ugh. 

By the way there are a lot of fans of this car. Hence how apps have been developed for it. There r custom magnetic phone mounts you can get for it. Also a custom mattress so you can sleep in the back, like is for Teslas too. https://voltshelf.weebly.com/chevy-volt.html

One of the main advantages of the Volt compared to a Tesla is that batteries are very resource intensive to build compared to an internal combustion engine.
So for people that rarely needs to go far, the car preforms admirably on battery alone, while still providing the option to go as far as needed thanks to the engine.

Though, the 100+ HP engine that Chevy has put in the Volt is frankly huge compared to what the car actually needs, so improvements can be made.
A car driving 100 km/h on flat terrain consumes between 7-20 kW (Maybe not a huge SVU/Pickup, or a semi truck), a rather pathetic figure compared to the 70+ kW that the engine in the Volt can produce.
And internal combustion engines typically reach peak efficiency at around 60-80% of peak load. (Ie, the engine in the Volt should be sized around 12-45 hp, a figure far smaller than what the car actually has.) Also, a smaller engine requires less building materials, weighs less, if it drives the generator directly from the crank shaft, then we even get rid of losses in the transmission, and thereby increase fuel efficiency, while also reducing the amount of mechanical components and thereby costs.

Though, would be nice if the engine ran on CNG instead of petrol. Since CNG has a few advantages, like being renewable since it is a common by product of anaerobic digestion of food waste. (Can also be produced in waste water treatment plants.) And CNG also doesn't go bad, unlike petrol (3-12 months) and diesel (2-6 months), meaning that the fuel can be in the car without us needing to worry about it, and always knowing that we have X many km of range, even if there were a power outage during the night. Though, CNG stations are at times a rare sight depending on where one lives.

Also, a good electric car should also have a decently sized capacitor bank to take off some of the load from the batteries during acceleration. And also to provide a more efficient energy storage for regenerative breaking. (Charge/discharge losses in capacitors is generally superior to that of batteries, though, they are much less energy dense.)

In the end, the Chevy Volt (Or Opel Ampera in the EU (Or Vauxhall Ampera in the UK)) is a decent car, but it could have been better.
Though, at least it took a large step in the right direction. Now I only hope someone comes in and makes this type of Hybrid electric car in a more proper fashion.

I've owned 3 (yes 3) Model S's, I've used them as a dailydriver before they became an hype and I can justly say, they are crap.

My first S85 was a
2013 model, this one only gave me headaches. Back then there weren't even any tax insentives and here in The Netherlands there was no mention of a charging network. This one had several problems which never got solved and eventually I got rid of it just because of all the problems.

My second was a 2015, which didn't have the electronics problems but had major quality issues and several recalls, I can say that this is the car with the most recalls I have ever owned.

My Third one was a 2018 model, this is when other manufacturers started to announce their cars and tax insentives started. THis one also had major quality issues. I'm a person who has drives S-classes, 7 series, ML, etc. etc. luxury cars, compared to those cars the Tesla is nothing.

All these people who yap their mouth on the internet are either fanboys who don't own one or envoiromentalists who turned Tesla into a religion. These people go hypermiling their cars and then brag on the internet about the mileage they got, if you use to car like a normal person (like I did) then the range isn't there.

 

People on the internet tend to yap their mouth about how wonderfull and technologic the cars are, well have you ever driven in a car within a similar price range? No you haven't! When you compare to similar cars in a similar price range they aren't as luxurious, comfortable or technologically advanced as some people pretend they are. What other car brands do is diversivy their models. You can buy a VW Golf for 12k and you can buy one for 40k, there's a difference. You can buy an S-class for 60k and you can buy one for 150k, there's a difference. Heck I've even had some kid on the internet argue with me that VW doesn't have an infotainment system but VW will gladly sell you one for 800 euro. He's talking about a 12k car vs. a Model 3 which costs 45k.... You see how stupid these people are? They don't own there cars, they will never own them and they pretend like money isn't an issue or something. Everybody on the internet is a millionair who can just buy stuff, not thinking about the pricetag.

 

Autopilot is crap! When people on internet say that it can drive on it's own and how advanced that is. No it can't! How the Tesla software works is dangerous. What the Tesla software does other brands could do for years and years, but other brands required you to keep your hands on the wheel. Somehting Tesla came back on in an update and now also requires you to keep your hands on the wheel (the stupid orange trick, goed how dumb are there people?).

These cars are crap! They're plastic! Compared to cars in the similar price range they aren't as advaced or luxurious! And before you say that I am a disgruntled customer and that I got a lemon. Did I get 3 lemons?

Can’t believe you complained there was no cruise control under 40km/hr. Like how long are you travelling at that speed lol.

@Linus: Mate, you live in the lower mainland. Come on, every one knows the unofficial minimum speed around here is 60km/h. And it's not like you'll be using cruise control in a neighborhood or school zone.

Tbh the Nissan Leaf is just better unless you want a hybrid.

But the traction battery is not liquid cooled and heated. A lot more degradation is the result.
