Motorola launches the second-gen Motorola Razr.

Summary

Today, Motorola announced the second -gen Motorola Razr which now comes with 765G, 8GB of ram and a 2,800 mAh battery along with 5G with a price-tag of $1,399, a hundred dollars less than the previous model.

The overall design of the new Razr looks fairly similar to the original foldable. There’s a 6.2-inch, 21.9:9 foldable display on the inside of the phone, while a 2.7-inch OLED “Quick View” display on the outside allows for access to notifications and other basic functionality. The Razr still has a 6.2-inch internal OLED display made of five different layers and sealed with a hard coating on top. Motorola claims the screen is rated to be opened and closed 200,000 times. To give you an idea how much that is, you could open and close the Razr 100 times a day for five years and still not hit that number. Also the same: the high price tag, which, at $1,399, is just $100 less than its predecessor. Inside, there’s a number of changes. The processor is a faster Snapdragon 765G (which helps add 5G support), the RAM has been increased to 8GB (from 6GB on the original), the internal storage has been doubled to 256GB, and the battery is a larger 2,800mAh (which should hopefully help solve the battery life issues). The more noticeable hardware changes are the shifting of the fingerprint sensor to the back of the phone (off of the “chin,” where it was located on the original) and completely overhauled cameras.

My thoughts

If I had to compare this phone to the Z flip the Razr still comes behind but now they are a little more similar and the Razr is more likey to be chosen than before with the new features.

You'd have to be a fool to choose this over the Samsung.

Try telling that to Michael Fisher. I'm pretty sure the only reason why he wants it in his pocket over the Galaxy Z Flip is because of nostalgia for the original Razr.

We don't know but you could check JerryRigEverything's video when it inevitably comes out, he probably will test that.

The black color is worse now -- it has a glass back. It's Gorilla Glass 5, but still.

Hmm I remember there being more than two generations of razor so far.

I think OP just meant the second clamshell foldable smartphone RAZR. Otherwise, it'd be the fourth, right?

Still very overpriced for what it is, not good enough specs and battery. I guess for very nostalgia folks, but meh, price kills it.

Haha, he was the first person I thought of when I saw the phone. I'll admit that the design is spot on if they're trying to replicate that phone, but I'm not sure I really agree with the form over function approach.

They're trying to sell it based on nostalgia, I guess. Based on how excited some people are for this year's model, seems it's working.

If I were to get a folding phone I'd get a Galaxy Z Flip, but considering how I just dropped $371 on a Pixel 4a I don't think I'll be getting a folding phone for a while.

Are there that many people interested in it? I haven't heard all that much. Plus the three crease points in the display is a pretty big downside IMO.

I'd be interested in getting a Pixel this year, but it looks like even though the 5 is getting a 90hz screen, it's going to lack a big display. So. RIP.

Then I'd just buy a regular phone 🤷‍♂️

Why pay more for significantly less.

For the cost of a regular phone and a smartwatch I can have a flip phone that fits in my shirt pocket and is about as convenient as both.

Pixel 4a + Moto 360 (as an example) is, as of right now, $549, which is significantly less money than every foldable right now, the Galaxy Z Flip and Razr included.

Pixel 4a has no 5G, slower last gen processor, and just barely faster charging (18 v 15). As a pilot city for 5G I'm looking forward to using it.

I don't get any 5G yet so I'm just gonna stick to 4G LTE for the foreseeable future. Anyway, you'd be better waiting for the Pixel 4a 5G or 5 if you want 5G without needing to spend a fortune.
