Realtek Woes - Zephyrus G14 - Mic Level non existent

TillyKittyKat

I come to you all seeking help.

I have an ASUS Zephyrus G14 which I bought last month and I’m having quite a bit of trouble with my headset’s microphone. On the Realtek driver the microphone level is so low that only shouting whilst eating it shows up a response in Sounds.

What’s odd is that if I manually change the Realtek sound driver to the Windows Generic one, the mic level is solved, but every now and then, playback audio stops working and I end up doing a dance between what I need at any one moment.

So I need your help to solve this once and for all. Here’s what’s been done so far:

  1. Checked headset with a known good computer (a mac) - it’s fine. (Headset does not have a mute switch)
  2. All windows updates installed
  3. Uninstalled/Reinstalled Realtek driver
  4. Rolled back to previous version of Realtek driver
  5. Disabled all audio enhancements
  6. Tried boosting microphone gain (20db is the best it does and no difference)
  7. Checked microphone volume - set to 100
  8. Changed to generic Windows driver (as above - works then stops working)
  9. Reinstalled Windows whilst keeping data (loathed to do a full reinstall)

Does anyone have any advice?

Best

Tilly.

sounds like windows installed the wrong driver for it then

happens to quite a few laptops using realtek that i've seen.

old fix was to disable hardware driver update (so it wont install the wrong one), and install the correct one, but windows seems to have removed that option

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately
