Setting a limit would keep a few from buying up cards, but I think miners would just get others to help them buy cards or have them mailed to friends or family to get around the 1-2 card limit.

I was planning on getting a 3080, guess I'll pick up a used 2080S if the 3080 cards aren't back in stock, thanks greedy miners.

i was hoping that nvidia could just block ip's from buying more if they hit the limit but i am no javascript or whatever website programming language/api there is    expert.

Oh for crying out loud, not this crap again.

 

Listen, miners: they are GRAPHICS Processing Units. Their purpose is to process graphics. Could you please leave them to the people who are actually going to use them for that purpose, rather than hoarding them, thanks.

 

Surely we'll soon reach the point where there aren't enough transactions for all these people with their stupid overpowered rigs to verify?

Could be done, but it doesn't get around the fact that miners could go to different locations to order to avoid the block (ordering GPUs is a one off thing, unlike say an online game) or the fact that if you have the cash for more than 2 high-end latest gen cards, you can probably afford to buy a VPN connection,

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

Consider that pretty much everyone builds their cards in China, it's likely these "fell off the back of the truck" so to speak. Someone in the logistics chain probably walked off with a box.

 

Like in all seriousness, this is something that happens in food logistics, because food spoils, so sometimes instead of things being trashed, the delivery drivers take them home. So something like that happening with electronics wouldn't be unsurprising if it had been damaged in shipment, but these items would have been returned by the the store for credit.

If you are in the USA, the profit has been eliminated. Block halving along with high electric price and IRS, you just mine for them. Your time is wasted. I would restart again if not for that. BitC just dropped profits by half and so one of the biggest farms went cold.

can we be done with wanna be quick money makers ruining pc gaming for the rest of us. I am wanting to build a pc using a 3080. I remember getting ym 1080 right before the boom and watching my $700 card turn into a $1000+ card for NO REASON other then supply and demand to these humans.

I dont think RDNA2 will be using HBM if it's meant to go from high end to mid range or even low end, otherwise two versions of the architecture will have to be made with different memory controllers. HBM might be the only solution to high end Radeon GPUs' huge need on memory bandwidth if they dont want to make huge memory widths (512bit or higher) again, who knows.

It would be good if electricty companies raise the cost in kWh to crypto miners because it's not good for the environment. (8x RTX 3080 = 22.4MWh for a year !)
