Windows 10 is known to come with a lot of telemetry and other “features” that reduce privacy in order to work as “software as a service”. Thankfully, there’s an effort to ameliorate this…

the only thing i don't like about macOS is how it's not that customizable. (at least from my experience)

Depends on what you mean by customization. Regardless you have to do most of all that customization via terminal.

The fact that it removes Windows Activation and uses a "generic key" for the install (as seen in the customization option of it), doesn't that mean it's technically pirated?

Why would someone run Windows unactivated if they can just use this and get all the customization they want without the MS stuff they wouldn't want ON anyway ?

 

(yes he does talk about it at the end of the video... But it doesn't change that they offer a generic key to activate it, regardless of what their EU rule/law or whatever it was they claim on their website somehow is allowing them to do this... Most of LTT's audience is in the US so it doesn't protect them in the least.)

I'm actually working on a similar project with temporary toggleable results, instead of having to install an entirely new OS, or having permanent changes that may brick features. It's based on Sycnex's Debloater Script to get a base line for what's absolutely needed and helps you temporarily suspend other processes and services using a feature built into Windows since Windows Vista called process suspension. Windows actually has their own tool for this, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/pssuspend, but without a baseline it's up to the knowledge of the user. So far results have been great:
 

 

I'll be posting it to r/lowspecgamer and requesting their help ensuring it works well with games, or more specifically anti-cheats, but I'm happy with the results so far.

It changes every Windows Version but here's an article from Microsoft:

so this just bricks Windows to the point that

• most modern games won't run
• search is completely dead
• updating is insanely complicated
• you lose access to uwp apps
• etc etc

why not use Linux then?

Privacy, Compatibility, and Performance

 

Although it reaches a point in which you realize there's not much you can do when it comes to privacy. Even you if were to make all your technology 100% foolproof and disappear from corporations, you can't really disappear from the government, and the government doesn't really try to hide your information. 39/50 States will freely give out your address if you're registered to vote for example. Drive a car? That's registered and it's only a few dollars away from getting your real name, address, and basic bank info. Heck, most repo men have access to troves of information just to track down your car for just a few bucks a month.

LTT said that they tried this for reasons that's like yeah you can run stuff that linux won't run but that's either games or adobe stuff. adobe doesn't work as the video showed and most modern games won't anyway because DX12 so there is no point to this over linux.

The big flaw I see with this, is that if you don't want/need DX12 and want to use classic shell then you can just sack off Windows 10 completely and use Windows 8.1 (which gets official security updates until 2023). No need to use a hacked OS (and and the security risks associated) and you get the same fully controllable Windows Update that Windows 7 had.

Some modern games won't but it's likely more than what runs on Linux. Additionally, more can be easily added by upgrading Windows 10 AME. That being said, Proton has continuously and rapidly expanded it's library and with the reduced overhead of Linux it is still a very valid option.

I really can't defend a standpoint that isn't my own. Regardless, people tend to use things they're familiar with. It's why I often find myself switching between Windows and Linux myself for years on end instead of staying on one. Between the Mere Exposure Effect, to the Sunk Cost Fallacy there's tons of psychological reasons users don't switch and will try all sorts of things to their current OS when switching may be significantly better for a specific need.
