PSU for RTX 3070

_lucalink

I'm looking to switch my graphics card to an RTX 3070 and am definitely going to have to upgrade my PSU as my current one is 450w.

This Is the system I will have.

Ryzen 5 2600x with stock cooler

B450 itx MB

16GB 3000mhz Corsair Vengeance

RTX 3070

500gb m.2

2tb 7200rpm HDD

Will this PSU be enough to power it.

Wait for ampere to actually launch and check it's power consumption first, we really do not know how much power a 3070 needs.

quick question, what 450w?

it should be fine if your PSU is a good one. The 12V+ power is what you would be looking for, it should be above 400W I'd wager.

This guy powered a 2080Ti(that is more power hungry than the 3070, at least according to nvidia) with a 450W PSU:

That said, keep in mind that this was only a short test and no long term experiment.

My 450 is quite a low end one so I will definitely upgrade it

Then go for a 650W 80+ Gold one at least, for future proofing. Not that you will need it for the 3070 but you'll never know where we will be heading in terms of power consumption in the future...

The CX450 isn't low end. In fact, it's one of the best budget units out there in terms of build quality. Now whether the wattage is enough is a different problem. A CX650 is $86 right now on Amazon if you wan tto keep the same model just with a higher wattage.

Well, as long as it's a decent PSU, they should be fine. Efficiency ≠ quality. A Corsair CX is better than something like EVGA GQ or Gamdias Kratos P1
