Streaming on a laptop (UHD 620)

Derrk

A friend of mine started streaming. insisted on getting a laptop over a desktop (asus zenbook), but now is having stuttering. internet speeds are good (94 mbps upload). I'm wondering if a capture card would help, or if the Intel 620 is the real probelm

probably having issues encoding the stream

no dGPU? what cpu? try x264 fastest?

i5 8250u. getting a "high cpu usage detected", but i'd figure even an i5 is enough to just stream. I'm very unfamiliar with streaming, brief tips for encoding?

if you have nvidia GPU, use NVENC

else, use software x264

given you have a 4c/8t CPU, you could try using software x264 at veryfast/superfast preset, and try streaming at 720p 30fps, see if you get any stutters

but you have to be able to run your games/application well to begin with.

its just integrated graphics, intel UHD 620. not even gaming, just relaxed stream, but can try software x264, thank you!

you can try going to slower and slower settings until you start seeing "CPU Overloaded!", then you should step back 1 or 2 settings

remember to set the bitrate right too, depending on which service you use

Capture card won't help you. What settings are you using? You probably have too high bitrate and resolution for what CPU can handle. Saying this as someone who streams 720p with laptop. And I did do several test runs to find highest resolution and bitrate I can use without whole machine becoming unusable.
