AMD drop a tease for RDNA 2 in Fortnite

Master Disaster

Only a few days after Nvidia announced the 3000 series AMD's marketing team is swinging into action. In what was obviously a marketing stunt a streamer showed off an easter egg in a fan made AMD themed map for the popular game Fortnite.

To access a hidden message in the level players must enter the code "6000" while playing the map, obviously a reference to the fact RDNA 2 will be the 6000 series.

Quote

This is indirect confirmation from AMD that the next generation Radeon series is indeed called RX 6000, after various changes to the schema over the past few years.

AMD has confirmed multiple times that we should expect Big Navi this year. The company employees also said that Big Navi consumer graphics cards should also launch before the next-generation consoles, which are also based on RNDA2 architecture. The consoles are currently scheduled to launch in November, indicating that the launch of the Big Navi graphics should be expected around this time.

Fortnite’s AMD Easter Egg is hidden in an AMD’s Battle Arena map, which is an AMD-themed stadium.

Doing so reveals the following message

Things are going to get very interesting in the next few weeks. I'm excited to see what AMD can bring to the fight.

I believe it was a custom AMD themed map, TBH I have never played Fortnite so I have no real idea what that means but I would guess EG had nothing to do with it?

I'm excited to see AMD's offering, but I'm still getting Nvidia here. I've heard and experienced too many driver issues on my temporary AMD card, and friends using Nvidia never had that.

Application support with CUDA is also a factor for me and overall I think AMD will need to have more than a "small" performance edge to win me over in terms of GPU.

Current System: Ryzen 7 3700X, Noctua NH L12 Ghost S1 Edition, 32GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz, MAG B550i Gaming Edge, 1TB WD SN550 NVME, SF750, RTX 3080 Founders Edition, Louqe Ghost S1

Yeah, I have no idea how Fortnite works either. Just read the article and you're right it is indeed a custom map AMD had made. Even if it's a custom map hosted by AMD I'm sure Epic is getting something out of it.

I wonder if someone has made a custom map for Apple headquarters and added a vault filled with Tim Cook rolling around in a pile of 30% of all vBucks sold on iOS. That I would be interested in seeing.

I hope it won't be Vega level of big. Navi did show a huge promise and also delivered a lot. It'll be a bit too late as I've decided to go with NVIDIA again.

Just think of the massive number of kids who will be bothering their parents for a new GPU!

Unless fortnite has changed significantly since i last played, (i was into save the world, not the battle royal side but there was enough stuff that cross applied and the patch notes where released together so i got a reasonable handle on how that side worked too), Epic are involved. This isn't CoD or Battlefield, everything is built by epic, hosted by epic and played via epic. Your not hosting your own fortnite server or building a custom map for it for you and your friends.

Probably a ridiculously large amount of money. I would argue it's not advertising but product placement/product endorsement which I know yes is technically advertising :D.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

How to setup MSI Afterburner OSD | How to make your AMD Radeon GPU more efficient with Radeon Chill | (Probably) Why LMG Merch shipping to the EU is expensive

Oneplus 6 (Early 2023 to present) | HP Envy 15" x360 R7 5700U (Mid 2021 to present) | Steam Deck (Late 2022 to present)

Mid 2023 AlTech Desktop Refresh - AMD R7 5800X (Mid 2023), XFX Radeon RX 6700XT MBA (Mid 2021), MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon (Early 2018), 32GB DDR4-3200 (16GB x2) (Mid 2022

I'm SO excited! RDNA 2's hardware-accelerated video-encoder may finally be able to match NVIDIA's Kepler from 2012 in quality!

Same. I've had ATi and then AMD many many times and I always end up with some stupid driver issues and whenever I have nvidia it is always smooth sailing, except for that one time when a driver update almost killed my GTX 260 because it made everyone's fan profiles flat, no spin up at high temps. To their credit, they fixed it real quick at least.

I do really hope AMD can compete at the high end this time, and by compete I don't mean similar performance +/-10% but 300x the heat and noise. Looking at you, 290X!

That being said, I was expecting to say something along the lines of "To at least get nvidia to lower their obscene prices" this time once again but the 3080 for 699 is downright reasonable for 2020. The 3090 though................

Then do it on their website.

And not fortnite. Guarantee that most actual gamers that are exciting about their launch arent playing fortnite. 😂

It would make more sense to be advertising with some AAA game, it seems weird to be advertizing AMD gpu's in fortnite, since that game can run on really low end stuff.
