Worth upgrading to i9-9900K from i7-8700K

today I got took an impulse purchase and bought the i9-9900K but I plan to upgrade to RTX 3080.

So my current thought is, is it really worth it to spend 380€ for the upgrade when it does not support PCie 4.0 even.

Zen 3 is also on the horizon but an upgrade to AMD would be around 800€, which is double what I spend now plus my SSD's aren't PCie 4.0 even.

Tried to search the forums on the topic but no one really explains the benefits and why it is good to upgrade or not.

I compared the CPU's on benchmarks and it would get at most 9% diminishing return overall for this upgrade.

What would you guys recommend?

(already trying to sell the i7-8700k for 220€ but seems like no one is interested in Germany)

thanks for the replies. Sending it back.

Why would an upgrade to amd be 800? A new 4700 is probs gonna be better than a 9900k and probs the same 300€ + 80 for a decent board. The upgrade for pure gaming is not worth it either way as a 8700k is still good. 220 for a 8700k is kinda insane. There are current gen ryzen cpu's that cost the about same and perform the same (3600).

It probably won't make toooo tooo much of a difference, considering the benchmark slides were done using a 10900K

Yeah nothing on Intel has PCIe 4 right now don't do it. Wait for Ryzen 4000, or if you really wanna upgrade now get Ryzen 3000.

If you are just gaming do not bother IMO. Is your 8700k overclocked?

Were they? The slides only say i9, not which i9. Could be anything between the i9 9900K and i9 10980XE. Not that it changes the information about PCIe 4.0 not making much difference.
