LTT Official Folding Month 2020!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Luckily when I said it was almost done, I really meant it.

For the last time in 2020, ladles and gentlespoons, here a blog post.

And with that said, it's a wrap! Thank you for everyone getting involved, if you'd like to continue talking about folding why not head over to The Folding Community Board

Should I admit I signed up for then totally forgot this was happening. Starting work... now.

I knew about it, forgot about it, missed the registration day by a few days. So I would say no.

Actually I think I might put my 2080S on sale since I'm (hopefully) going to leave for 6 weeks at the end of the week. It might still sell decently due to the inavailability of the new cards, and hopefully something's available not too late after I come back...

Just installed this thing to render my desktop and youtube, so I won't bog down my 2060. Little did I know, this thing is a miniature beast.

Screenshot_41.png.cbc97481a22b13606ad650deb60f6fee.png

This GT 710 ain't slacking either. It's using 15% of x4 lanes on PCIe gen 3.

Screenshot_42.png.3dfbd8cdcb1eb48ff661a36a6a77279a.png

Will have to see the results tomorrow. I bet it'll max out below 200K. Just no way this thing can out perform a 1060..

Current Build

Exactly, esp when in a few short weeks (hopefully) 2080 Tis will be on the used market for less than a new 3070.

I somehow don't see that happening. Mainly because there gonna be the same shortage we saw with the 3080s and 3090s

For me? Certainly not. Perhaps for others. Replacing something you already own isn't a bang for the buck move.

For folding depending on where you are it can very much be just from the power savings...

Canada is weird, people are selling them right now for $1400 used, new are about $2000, unless you look at amazon which is double the USD new price...

People have wanting to buy ads for about $500-$700 rn however.

I do like this post however 🤣

Trying to be reasonable and not lowball. If you wanted to sell at a higher price you should’ve done so before the 30 series came out. Stop trying to sell your used card for more than the 30 series when they’re much better and just requires patience.

no point in upgrading then since the 3070s can consume considerable amounts of power more.

PPD/W is better on newer generations, so once you upgrade it's up to you to choose to get more points for the same power or use less power for the same amount of points.

My 1070 puts out 1.1MPPD or so at 150W, sure the 2080S draws 250W... but gives 3.3M. And if I power limit it as far down as I can, it only draws 100W but still gives more than the 1070, about 1.4M.

There are performance number on @LAR_Systems database.

The 3080 is currently more expensive to fold with than the 2080 Ti per million points.

It remains to be seen how the 3070 will go, but I'm sure we'll see soon enough.

Not a table and not PPD/W but $/1M points, but equivalent and the former and the data's there to wring into the form you prefer :)

How long is the ROI tbh. If you can make back the difference in value between selling your old card  second hand and buying the new one quickly then it's possibly worth it, otherwise it's just more of a loss than retaining a less efficient card.

Yup. Here assuming I can upgrade for $300 that would pay back in about 6 months.

Note: take it with a hint of salt because I’m drawing about 320w for my PPD and those figures are based on the 2080Ti drawing 250

True. I wonder what the person w/ the 3080 is drawing.
